Last night we hosted two community events that displayed the spirit and dedication our teachers and students have to being informed and ethical citizens and leaders in our global community.

First, our Lower School children and teachers shared their "world tour" through the Lower School years at the Community Diversity Night. Celebrating diversity involves learning about the people in our world, including their traditions, beliefs, and life choices. It was wonderful to see and hear what our students have learned about the people and their countries as they sang, danced, read stories, shared knowledge, and had fun together.

Directly after that event, the Upper School community service club, led by Dora Garcia and AJ Naddoff, hosted a talent show to raise money for Make a Wish Foundation. Students in grades 6-12 staged some amazing talent and showed great courage as they worked to raise money for this important foundation. The students' commitment to serving others was heartwarming and inspiring.

News from Lower School

Dear Lower School Families,

At 3:15 this coming Thursday afternoon, May 7, fifth grade students will take part in the culminating exhibition of the Lower School. The students have been asked to take a person or event from the period of history they have studied and answer how this person or event demonstrated independence. To be successful during this exhibition, the students have had to take advantage of what they have learned in all areas of the curriculum. They have been working with an adult advisor since the beginning of April, and on May 7, each student will present his or her written and visual component and answer questions. Then students will make an oral presentation for three to five minutes and share what they have learned, explain how their person or event answers the essential question, and describe the process that was involved in preparing for the exhibition. The exhibition is certainly an example of 21st century learning, and the fifth grade has been holding this annual rite of passage since the early 1990s!

A note regarding Pre-K and Kindergarten dismissal next year: Beginning in the fall, the Pre-K and Kindergarten will dismiss at noon on Wednesdays. Moving the dismissal back will allow the students to have lunch here at School.

End of year reminder: The Lower School Closing will be on Thursday, June 11, at 10:00 a.m. in the gym.

Best wishes,

Thomas Fuller                             Courtney P. McGillicuddy

Families also have access to program information for Arts, Athletics, the CAP, Global Studies, and STEAM Diploma Programs, the Honors Program, and Advanced Placement courses. Junior-Senior Prom - Saturday, May 16

Junior-Senior Pre-Prom Gathering, 5:30 p.m., Brimmer and May

Junior-Senior Prom, 7:00 p.m., Newton-Marriott Hotel

In order to make this year's prom a safe, fun, and memorable evening Brimmer and May has organized the following activities and made the following arrangements:

Pre-Prom Party at 81 Middlesex Rd. (Head of School's House) with professional photographer, David Barron. This event will begin at 5:30 p.m. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome! David will be posing the students in pairs, in friendship groups, and randomly. Parents, family, and friends are welcome and should be sure to bring their own cameras too.

Present the 2015 Junior-Senior Prom at the Newton Marriott at 2345 Commonwealth Avenue, Newton. The Prom begins at 7:00 p.m. with hors d'oeuvres followed by dinner and dessert. Dinner will be the "Night to Remember Buffet "with an unlimited soda bar and a make-your-own-sundae bar. Following dinner there will be dancing until 11:00 p.m. Faculty and administrators will be chaperoning, and a special Photo Booth (free of charge) will be part of the entertainment.

Prom tickets are $75 per person. Tickets must be purchased by Wednesday, May 13. Please see Mr. Murray to purchase tickets.

So that the prom can be fun for all those attending, we ask that students remain at the prom until 10:30 p.m. Once students begin to leave, the party is less exciting for those who stay. We hope the students will respect this community value well.

We look forward to seeing our students at the pre-prom party!
