Over the past few days several parents have asked me how the School uses the surveys we ask you to fill out each spring. Horgan Marketing is an outside consulting company that helps us do an internal assessment of our strengths and weaknesses. We are primarily interested in trends, so we will be comparing the results from the last several years to this year. Because this company conducts similar surveys at other independent school, we are also able to compare ourselves to other like-minded schools.
Every June, the Administrative Team and I meet for a two-day retreat to review the prior School year and set goals and a theme for the upcoming year. At the meeting, the Horgan Marketing consultant reviews the survey findings with us, and the results are then used to inform some of our goals. Seeing the trends over a three-year feedback cycle helps us benchmark our strengths as a school and identify where work needs to be done.
I know this is a busy time of year, but if you have not filled out the survey, I hope you will consider doing so. The survey closes on May 1.

Greenline Wins Gold!
On April 17, 2015, the Upper School Chorus, Greenline, traveled to New York City to participate in the Heritage Festival. This auditioned event brought choirs from around the country to St. Bartholomew's Church where fourteen ensembles participated in the adjudicated event. Greenline earned first place in their division as well as a gold rating for their performance. This honor is given to those who score in the top ten percent of the festival's rating system.
While in New York, singers also attended the Broadway show On the Town, visited New York University's Steinhardt School of Music, and enjoyed a post-performance cruise around Manhattan.
Please join me in congratulating Greenline for their hard work and dedication in achieving such monumental success in their first national competition in School history.

News from Lower School
Dear Lower School Families,
Well, Ms. McGillicuddy and I hope to see many of you tomorrow at the Auction--it promises to be a passport to a good time! There will be plenty to bid on in the silent and live auctions (wait until you see the class items!), and Pre-K-1 parents can help "Fund-a-Bot" while 2-3 parents can "Fund-a-Kibo Robot." After a big Saturday night, next week will seem a little quiet as far as special events are concerned, but the month of May is approaching and all of that will change!
On a personal note, I am truly humbled to be honored by the School tomorrow. As a teacher, the ultimate reward is having a student come back after many years and saying that you made a difference in his or her life; however, in this instance being able to share this honor with my wife, my older son, and my sister, who will be attending with me, is something special.
Best wishes,
Thomas Fuller Courtney P. McGillicuddy

Band Master Class
On Friday, April 17, our grade 4 and 5 band students welcomed six musicians for a Band Master Class. Our guests sat in each section of the band to listen, share celebratory comments, and offer helpful suggestions for improvement. Our student musicians played four pieces in preparation for our Spring Concert in May (see video). It was a wonderful collaboration! Following the session, our experts met with Mrs. Wooster, Mrs. Clamage, and Mr. Reustle (our Lower School band assistant) to discuss future enrichment events. Please plan to join us on May 14, at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy our performance!

Essay Workshop - May 18 (new date)
The Class of 2016 will take part in a 2-hour college essay workshop on Monday, May 18, led by a college admissions officer. Juniors have been working on their essays during College Counseling class for the past 2 weeks and will continue to do so for the next few weeks. A reminder to parents and guardians: If you have not yet met with your child's college counselor, please make plans to do so before the end of the year.
Advanced Placement Exams
During the weeks of May 4 and May 11 a total of 51 students will take 81 Advanced Placement exams and submit 8 Advanced Placement Studio Art portfolios. Although the exams have been ordered, all students are required to complete preliminary registration materials before May 1st. Time has been set aside during the school day to do this as well as after school for those students who do not have free periods. Times were announced at Morning Meeting and are also posted outside the College Counseling Office. Parents and guardians will be billed for the exams through the Business Office, and then we will send the payment on to The College Board.
Summer Opportunities
Students should read their Brimmer email to keep updated on the many summer program opportunities that are being sent to them on a daily basis. They should also continue to read the College News Board in Almy, and check the box of brochures in the college Office.
