The calendar for next year is complete, and although the key dates were sent earlier this year, I want to highlight a few important details regarding the 2015-2016 school year. Please note that we begin before Labor Day. However, we will be closed on Friday before the long weekend. This allows us to begin the full academic year sooner and prevents the fall from becoming overly condensed. Also, please note the 2016 school year closing date. We will keep school open until the week of June 13th. Please plan accordingly so the end-of-year events are not disrupted, and the children can end the school year with their classmates and teachers.
As I mentioned a few months ago, due to the extreme nature of this year's winter weather pattern, I extended the school year by a few days. We are now beginning to unfold how the end of schedule will look. I encourage you to check this Bulletin weekly for the details. In addition, with the lost school time, we made the decision to cancel our Earth Day all-school celebration this year. We will still celebrate Earth Day within the various homerooms and classes, but we decided that readjusting the Pre-K-12 schedule would be too disruptive at this time. Please remind our students how important it is to care for our Earth.
Lastly, in today's Bulletin you will see that we have rescheduled the 6-12 Curriculum Fair for Monday, May 4th, due to numerous athletic conflicts on the original date. At this event, students and families have the opportunity speak to teachers, department chairs, program directors, college counselors, and advisors about the courses and programs for next year.
I wish all of you a happy and safe Marathon Monday. Also, don't forget to tell the students about how the conflict at the Concord Bridge between the British and Minutemen began our nation's fight for independence!
Sincerely,
Judy Guild

News from Lower School
Dear Lower School Families,
When Ms. McGillicuddy and I declared the end of winter last week, we did a good job! Last weekend was beautiful, and it is wonderful to see the snow is no longer on the playground!
I cannot help but notice at morning drop-off that there are a few students who are sitting in the front seat (not recommended before age 13) or are not sitting on booster seats (check state regulations). Please make sure your children are properly buckled up; we want students to arrive safely!
The Third Grade French Plays were magnifique! It is always amazing to see how comfortable the students are reciting the lines of their plays " en Français!"
There is one week until the Auction, and there are some incredible Lower School items on which you can bid. Go for it!
Ms. McGillicuddy and I hope you all enjoy the long weekend. If you are running in the Boston Marathon or know someone who is, good luck!
Best wishes,
Thomas Fuller Courtney P. McGillicuddy

Curriculum Night - MAY 4
Change in Date for Curriculum Night - Monday, May 4, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Due to the complexity of the spring sports schedule following a rough winter and the unavailability of fields in early April, we are rescheduling the Middle and Upper School Curriculum Night for Monday, May 4. See more information on this event.
At this event, new and returning families are welcome to attend the New Parent Reception, which is a part of the evening's program. During this event you may gather information about courses, discuss placements, and build a schedule for 2015-2016.
During the Curriculum Night, students complete course sign-up sheets and sign up for athletics or after school activities. Students, parents, or guardians may consult teachers, department heads and directors, the College Counselor, Dean of Students, Athletic Director, etc. in planning for course work and athletics/activities for next year. Families also have access to program information for Arts, Athletics, the CAP, Global Studies, and STEAM Diploma Programs, the Honors Program, and Advanced Placement courses. Please be certain to attend in order to complete the course enrollment process; this is an opportunity for students to plan and organize for the upcoming and future high school years.

Dear Parents;
Greenline is greatly looking forward to our spring trip to New York City to participate in the Heritage Festival. Please read the detailed itinerary and packing list. The syllabus and permission form that was signed at the beginning of the semester applies to all of the performances, so no additional verification is necessary. Our return to Brimmer on Monday, April 20, is highly dependent on traffic, so we ask for your flexibility and understanding.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am looking forward to a wonderful experience for our School community.

Colleges That Change Lives Program
Wednesday, May 20, 7:00 p.m. at the Newton Marriott
Note there are several new announcements on the College Board in Almy including evening programs in Boston for colleges such as Washington University, Harvard, Duke, Penn, Georgetown and others. Students should check this board on a regular basis as these area programs are a great (and easy) way to find out more about this institutions and also "show interest."
Essay Workshop
The Class of 2016 will take part in a 2-hour college essay workshop on Monday, April 27, led by a college admissions officer. Juniors have been working on their essays during College Counseling class for the past 2 weeks and will continue to do so for the next few weeks. They will also begin gathering the information they will need in order to complete The Common Application. A reminder to parents and guardians: If you have not yet met with your child's college counselor, please make plans to do so before the end of the year.
Advanced Placement Exams
During the weeks of May 4 and May 11 a total of 51 students will take 81 Advanced Placement exams and submit 8 Advanced Placement Studio Art portfolios. Although the exams have been ordered, all students are required to complete preliminary registration materials before May 1st. Time has been set aside during the school day to do this as well as after school for those students who do not have free periods. Times were announced at Morning Meeting and are also posted outside the College Counseling Office. Parents and guardians will be billed for the exams through the Business Office, and then we will send the payment on to The College Board.
Summer Opportunities
Students should read their Brimmer email to keep updated on the many summer program opportunities that are being sent to them on a daily basis. They should also continue to read the College News Board in Almy, and check the box of brochures in the college Office.

Director of College Counseling
