February 2015 will be talked about for years to come, and our students will recall the impact these series of storms have had on them. With six snow days, thus far, our administrators and teachers are making adjustments to ensure our students receive the education we planned for them. In many cases the faculty sent assignments to our students in an effort to keep minds engaged and moving forward on the work that needs to be done. However, simply put, online learning does not take the place of in-class learning. I am pleased that our faculty's use of the digital tools available helped them design lessons for distance learning, but we still have more to do if we want to make up for these lost days.
In the coming week we will be discussing ways to make up the time spent away from School. This discussion will take a bit of time if we are to do this effectively and with purpose for all ages and divisions. Please be patient until we figure this out. We will not take away spring break as many of our families and faculty already have plans. Instead, our administrators will look at the calendar and put the puzzle together in a new way.
In the meantime, please be patient on the roads around our School. Please use the parking lot after 3:00 p.m. and avoid parking on the street if at all possible. If you are late to pick up your child, please call the office, and we will make adjustments. Wouldn't it be great if our children were to look back on this winter of 2015 with fond memories and not ones of frustration and trouble for all?
Sincerely,
Judy Guild
Head of School

News from Lower School
Dear Lower School Families,
Thanks for helping out with the change in our dismissal routine; Devon Road is a true mess along with Middlesex, Dunster, Norfolk. . .but your help has made dismissal bearable! I hope you all enjoy a wonderful long weekend celebrating Presidents' Day. Be aware that some grades may be sending homework to do over the weekend in an effort to make up for time lost due to snow days, so check your children's backpacks! Teachers are also taking advantage of the Fridays when we do not have Share or have an abbreviated Share to add academic time.
Important information for grade 1 & 2 families: The Celebration of the Arts has been postponed until Friday, February 27.
Best wishes, Thomas Fuller Courtney P. McGillicuddyHead of Lower School Assistant Head of Lower School Early Childhood Coordinator

From the Middle School
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Snow Day Assignments
All Middle School teachers have been instructed to extend the classroom to our students' homes when classes cannot be held due to inclement weather. We began this effort this past week when we encountered our third consecutive week that began with school cancellations. Most assignments can be found on eBackpack, and some information may have been communicated via email as well. Middle School students should still be spending some time "in the classroom" even while at home during these snowy days.
Winter Weekend
Please note that there will be no School on Monday and Tuesday, February 16 and 17. School will resume on Wednesday, February 18.

College Counseling
FAFSA Information for Parents/Guardians of Seniors:
I just received the following email from NACAC (National Association of College Admissions Counseling):
Happy FAFSA season! I expect a lot of your students have either filled out the FAFSA or are preparing to do so. Please remind them that it is okay (in fact, encouraged) to estimate tax information if taxes haven't been filed yet. The important thing is to submit that FAFSA before the college's and state's deadlines. More about providing financial info on the FAFSA
Class of 2016 Reminders
Parents are reminded to complete the questionnaires on Naviance and to schedule an appointment with a member of the College Counseling Team. In addition, juniors should decide which spring tests to take and complete the registration process. Check the Brimmer and May College Guide for dates, deadlines, and instructions on how to create an account for both the SAT and the ACT. Students should meet with a college counselor to discuss a testing plan.
