The students' expression of creativity has revealed an amazing range of talent recently. STEAM students in the Upper School are developing their own student-led business using design concepts produced with our newly acquired vinyl cutter and steam press. The Middle School's production of Peter Pan and Wendy revealed outstanding new talent as well as wonderful growth within many of our "experienced" thespians. And before break, the three Thanksgiving programs displayed heart-warming talent and creativity from our four-year-olds to our seniors.
"Unleashing the creative potential in all of us" (Kelley, Creative Confidence) requires a combination of learned and unlearned skills as well as a commitment to a process that includes risk taking, amending mistakes, embracing affirmation, and advancing to the next level. I am proud of our students. They set a wonderful example for all of us as we embrace the many possibilities that lie ahead.
Sincerely,
Judy Guild

News from Lower School
Dear Lower School Families,
Ms. McGillicuddy and I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
This coming week we have two opportunities for you to be on campus! Please realize, however, that we certainly understand that work schedules can prevent you from joining us--that is why we have many events throughout the year. Thursday evening, December 11, starting at 7:00 (students need to be at School by 6:30 and have on appropriate concert clothing), grades 4-12 will present their Holiday Concert. This concert always draws a very large audience, and you need to order free tickets in advance. Please see the Holiday Concert information above.
On Thursday, December 12, second-grade parents will have an opportunity to join me, along with Ms. Wareham (Pre-K-Grade-3 Math Coordinator), to hear about our math program (light breakfast fare will be served).
Check this out! You can now register for after-school programs online, and a flyer will be sent home, too. There are all sorts of exciting programs: two science offerings, a Mandarin club, and much, much more!
Best wishes,
Thomas Fuller Courtney P. McGillicuddy

Middle School Reminders
Dear Parents/Guardians
Although we just returned from Thanksgiving Break, it won't be long (10 school days) until we are on Winter Break. With the weather turning colder than normal at this time of the year, we ask that you please have your son/daughter bring a winter coat, hat, and gloves for when they go out to recess.
The Middle School Senate is collecting toys and books for both Toys for Tots and the Waltham Family School. Please donate new ($15 or less for ages 2-12) or lightly used toys, books, and Legos by December 12, 2014. There will be bins placed in each homeroom for students to place items. Any new items will be donated to Toys for Tots, and all lightly used items or items in good condition will be donated to the Waltham Family School. The toys will be delivered prior to Winter Break.
Just a reminder that the Holiday Concert Rehearsal is on Monday, December 8 from 2:30 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

National Geographic Bee
On Wednesday, December 10, at 10:45 a.m. (Assembly period), Brimmer and May students in grades 6-8 will have the opportunity to participate in the 1st round of the 2015 National Geographic Bee. Two-time defending School Champion (and 2014 State Finalist--one of the top 100 Massachusetts finalists in the State Round) Benjamin Jaffer, and other past participants have already started preparing for the 2015 Bee. We hope students will join the challenge.
Round 1 is a double elimination stage. That means any participant who answers two questions incorrectly will be out of the contest. With that in mind, it is probably a good idea for all to review geographical facts and terms, take some sample tests, and brush up on general knowledge of places in the world.
As there will be no formal study sessions in advance of any of the rounds, please see below for a few valuable links (including apps for the iPad) to the National Geographic website.

Middle School students interested in being a contestant must let Mr. Ferrara (aferrara@brimmer.org) know of their intentions to participate in the Bee no later than Tuesday, December 9.

College Counseling News
Summer Opportunities
Despite the chilly weather, it is not too early to begin thinking about summer plans. Since early fall, the College Counseling Office has been receiving brochures and posters on a daily basis from various academic and experiential programs from around the world. Look on the College news bulletin board after the holidays to see some of the programs displayed. Students and families are also invited to look through the box of information that will be kept in the College Office. This year, many organizations are sending information electronically. All of this information is being forwarded to all students in the Upper School and to the Middle School when appropriate. Please remind your student to check his or her Brimmer and May email on a regular basis.
PSAT's
The results of the PSAT exams will arrive soon from the College Board. The parents and guardians of all students who sat for the exam will receive a mailing containing an official score report, the actual test booklet the student used, and a detailed explanation from the College Board about how to interpret the scores and the other helpful information provided on the score report. Please read through this material carefully as each score report is individualized to provide specific information on how your student can prepare for the SAT. Each student in grades 10 and 11 will be instructed to meet with a member of the college counseling team to go over their score report.
Summit SAT Class
Please be sure to register for the SAT preparation class that will begin in early January and continue weekly until spring when the May and June SAT exams will be given. A mailing was sent home to all parents and guardians of students in the Class of 2016. Financial aid is available to those who qualify. Small group classes can also be arranged for ACT prep. A minimum of four students is needed, and the class would take place in the home of one of the participants. Call Mrs. Pendergast in the College Office for more information about small group classes. There is no financial aid for these small group classes.
