Looking at the world in a different way, helping people laugh, and turning a passion into a career is the story of Tom Magliozzi--one of the two brothers of NPR's weekly radio show Car Talk. He passed away this week and leaves behind a legacy of inspiration. While being a self-professed "regular guy," Mr. Magliozzi was far from regular. A graduate of MIT with a doctoral degree in marketing, he and his brother Ray became known as "Click and Clack the Tappet Brothers." Their humor and passion for what they did kept many entertained, but it was their ability to solve complex engineering problems, which other mechanics could not solve, that impelled people to call in or listen to their show. The Tappet Brothers were experts in their field, and they connected with people in a way that made the most annoying car issues comical.

Mr. Magliozzi is a person of significance to talk about with our students. He turned his passion into a fun and successful career by looking at the world in a different way. His laugh and levity lightened people's burden.

Sincerely,

Judy Guild

Head of School

Announcing a New Ticketing Policy for All Shows at Brimmer and May

We want your theatre experience at Brimmer and May to be as pleasant and stress-free as possible. That's why we're implementing a new policy this year and asking our audience to reserve their tickets in advance, using our online partner, Ticketstage.com.

Middle School productions and the Holiday and Spring Concerts will still be free of charge, but now you will be able to reserve your seat for all of our shows ahead of time with a few clicks online. Here's how to do it:

The School website News and the Bulletin will announce when tickets will be available for specific shows.

* Go to the ticket website: www.ticketstage.com

* Locate Brimmer and May from among the theatres.

* Choose your performance date.

* Choose your seats.

Print out your confirmation page or confirmation email, and bring it with you to the theatre. This is your ticket. Don't worry if you lose it; we have a record, but it's easier if you bring it.

Thanks very much. We hope you enjoy the show!

Lower School News
News from Lower School

Dear Lower School Families,

Tuesday is a holiday honoring our veterans; we at School have spoken about the Veterans' Day holiday, so, if you have a chance, go to a parade on Tuesday!

Grade 1 parents will have an opportunity to join me, along with Ms. McGillicuddy and Ms. Sammeta, to hear about our literacy program next Friday, November 14. We will meet in the Lower School Library at 8:15 a.m.

An important note regarding iPad use: It has been very exciting for Ms. McGillicuddy and me to visit classes and to see iPads being used and work being projected so that all can see. Part of our emphasis this year is to help students understand the appropriate use of technology. We really need all of our families to work with us as a team to ensure that all of our students receive the greatest benefit from using their iPads, while avoiding the distractions that can arise. For example, as the Grade Four and Five Acceptable Use Agreement states, "we agree that it is fun to get messages, but these features also can cause disruption/loss of focus when doing homework or reading your book on your iPad," so please monitor your child's use of this and similar functions. Above all, electronic devices should charge overnight in a place that is not the child's bedroom!

On a sweeter note, Ms. McGillicuddy and I would like to thank all families who donated candy for Operation Gratitude. We collected over 40 pounds!

Best wishes,

Thomas Fuller                             Courtney P. McGillicuddy
