I am regularly impressed with the commitment Brimmer and May's administration, faculty, and staff make to their own professional development and growth. A learning community can only be as dynamic as its members, and this past summer our learning community earned an A+ in this category. Our robust professional development budget funded many projects, courses, trainings, and programs. I encourage you to click here to look at the list of what our educators did over the summer months; it is inspiring.
In addition to the variety of out-of-the-house professional development programs, we also offer several in-house programs. Six seasoned faculty and administrators met with me over the summer to plan a year-long focus on professional Learning Walks where colleagues visit each other's classrooms and discuss the instructional presence of the 3Rs: rigor, relevance, and relationships. After visiting 6-8 classrooms, the facilitators debrief their findings about best practices with the participants. If you would like to learn more about this professional experience used at Brimmer and May, I wrote for Independent School Magazine entitled "Learning Walks: Instructional Rounds for Your School."
Next Thursday, October 2, at 8:15 a.m. in the theatre, the Parents' Association will host guest speaker Tanya Avrith from EdTechTeacher. Ms. Avrith will lead us in a discussion on helping our students manage their digital footprint. This conversation began in August with our faculty at their professional development day. I hope you will join us for this important event.
Sincerely,
Judy Guild

Algebra II Students Create Math Videos
Algebra II students made their own version of Kahn Academy videos in preparation for their Chapter 1 test. Each pair of students was assigned a problem from the chapter review and were asked to make a video of them solving and explaining the problem. They were graded on their math accuracy, creativity, and presentation. The videos were both informative and entertaining. Click here for one of the videos, created by Harry Tan and Michelle Li.
