4.) An Introduction to Welcoming Schools, a Training with CE credit - August 26 - Portland, OR

Monday, August 26th, 8:30am - 4:30pm Portland State University Graduate School of Education 615 SW Harrison St., Portland, OR 97207 Welcoming Schools is a comprehensive approach to embracing family diversity, avoiding gender role stereotyping and ending bullying. This one-day training is designed to meet the needs of pre-school and elementary-level educators, school staff and child serving agencies. Training participants will be provided with:
- An understanding of Oregon's state requirements for anti-harassment, intimidation and bullying policies and procedures.
- An increased understanding of the relationship between academic achievement and a safe learning environment.
- Best practices for addressing bullying and building a positive school climate.
- An overview of teacher training resources to bring back to your building.
- An overview of classroom resources including vetted children's literature and curriculum related to family diversity and inclusion.
- Opportunities to build skills in talking about gender identity and sexual orientation in age-�-appropriate ways.

5.) Archie Comics Celebrates 'Kevin Keller Day' With 'It Gets Better' Video (VIDEO)

For those of you not checking out the comic stands every Wednesday, Kevin Keller is the gay character who was introduced into the Archie universe back in 2010. The first issue in which he made an appearance, "Veronica" #202 (as a crush of Veronica's), went onto become the first Archie comic to sell out in the comic's 70-year history.
