Preparing for Snow
Here are some tips and important items to have on-hand when preparing for a winter storm:
- Rock salt, sand or even kitty litter to melt ice on walkways and improve traction.
- Snow shovels and other snow removal equipment.
- Sufficient heating fuel such as dry wood for your fireplace.
- Adequate clothing and blankets to keep warm.
- Make a Family Communications Plan to know where your family is in case of an emergency.
- Minimize travel.
- Bring pets inside during winter weather.
- When outside, wear mittens instead of gloves. They are warmer.
- Cover your mouth with a scarf to protect lungs from extremely cold air.
- Never use a construction heater or your stove to warm your house.
- Practice extreme caution when using a space heater, as they can pose a serious fire hazard if not set-up properly. For space heater safety tips, See Video.

NJ Disaster Loan Deadline Extended to March 1st
NJ survivors of Hurricane Sandy now have until March 1, 2013 to register for disaster assistance through FEMA and SBA. Both organizations help to repair/replace real estate, personal property, equipment and business assets that have been damaged by the hurricane. Read More

NY & NJ Recovery Centers
The recovery centers, which will remain open until further notice, are one-stop shops for homeowners, renters, business owners and other eligible survivors to get assistance as quickly as possible. Read More

FEMA Task Force
FEMA Community Task Force Teams fan out into neighborhoods in Queens, New York assisting disaster survivors with updates on their applications. The teams are comprised of Individual Assistance Specialists, Community Relations Specialists and Volunteer Agency Liaisons. They are able to check applicant's status and resolve issues in the field.
