Sometimes I just get so overwhelmed by all the things to worry about like too much fluoride, the chem trails, GMO's, my daughters' challenges, paying bills, family, etc. and when I feel like I just need a break I go to . . . Pinterest Porn. I'm late to Pinterest because frankly i couldn't handle another thing i had to do on the computer. I didn't really get what was so fantastic about it, until one of those bad days came around and I decided to check out by entering the fantasy world of Pinning. I now have a love/hate relationship with it. On one hand it can be seen as creating one's vision board for life, but on the other hand the time I am wasting on there could be doing the very things I'm pinning about like gardening, crafting, or cooking. What happened to escaping into a good book? I will now put myself on a Pinterest fast and practice what I preach. At least for a few weeks.
I am also grappling with another dilemma. I must find creative ways to a make an income. Although I believe I save money growing my own food and visiting the local farmers markets, buying organic chicken feed and beautiful hand made skin oils cost a pretty penny. I am considering having advertising displayed on the site. This is a big step but I must be able to pay the bills somehow. On one hand it is giving in to the constructs of consumerism, but on the other hand it will be a way to get the messages out in the world. The site has always been about a blend of the holistic with style. Hopefully the ads will convey this as well. What are your thoughts?
The older I get the more I believe a key to happiness is to create one's own reality that is shielded from the everyday barrage of negativity. This weekend i'm taking my girls and heading out to the desert to celebrate a friend's birthday. I am going to tune out the noise of our everyday life, focus on the serenity of Joshua Trees, and perhaps then the desert winds will soothe my frantic spirit.
