Two weekends ago we went up to Yosemite to scatter my Grandma Rose's ashes along the Merced River where she spent many hours being content. It was a moving, beautiful ceremony where my family and I exchanged stories about her and my Grandfather and then Charlotte sang a song about the River. The song is originally a native American tune that always soothes the both of us. "The river she is flowing, flowing, and flowing. The river she is flowing . . . down to the sea. Mother carry me, your child I will always be. Mother carry me . . . down to the sea." The lyrics are perfect in capturing the essence of losing a matriarch and how life still will continue. The cycle of life and death was further exemplified that day when we found out our favorite chicken Edith was killed by a hawk. I try to comfort myself in thinking that it is a part of the chain of life in nature, but that still doesn't take away from missing our lady Edith. It also doesn't take away from my desire to get the sling shot out so i can protect Maud, from other hawks as she searches the garden for her lost sister.

Speaking of the chain of life in nature . . . I went to hear Jeffery Smith speak this week and again I am astounded at how insidious and evil the corporations like Monsanto, Bayer and Dow and DuPont are. They truly have no conscience with regard to altering the natural order of things. Their ultimate goal is to have all of our seeds and food contain cancer causing GMOS just to make more millions. Thank goodness there are food freedom warriors out there like Jeffery, Vanadana Shiva and Robyn O'Brien to educate us and help stop this madness. This week I am so excited to have an interview with Robyn who is such an inspiration to me.

The river will continue to flow, and our great mother will continue to carry us . . . but she may need our help and respect from time to time.
