Being on the island of Kauai a few weeks ago, reawakened a dream my love and I have had of buying a plot of land away from the destructive pesticides and GMO seeds running amok on the mainland. The idea is to be able to grow food in large enough quantities so we could sell it at farmer's markets around the island. That was the idea until I started hearing about how Monsanto's dirty tentacles were reaching the garden island as well. It seems they are growing some toxic corn on the South side of the island and because of the way the wind blows it is reaching some Northern plots. This is being dealt with so our dream hasn't been completely vanquished, however it brings to home the bigger issue. We are in a dire crisis where corporations are assaulting our rights to wholesome food. They want to destroy us, our planet, our children and how they are doing it is by going after our seeds. Take a moment and think about what a seeds represents: It represents life, growth, creation itself. A seed after all is the essence of everything! My wise friend Judith Scott and I were discussing this over dinner and we realized that ultimately this war on our seeds, food, and planet is an assault on the feminine. As Judith so eloquently said "the one freedom women have had that hasn't been taken from them is being able to choose what their family eats. But now the corporations want to decide on a global level what women feed their children. Their inherent nurturing ability is being squashed and taken away!"  The farmers in India know this. In Brazil they know this. In Germany they are aware of this. Over 20,000 farmers have committed suicide in India because they couldn't fight the system of GMO seeds and crops.

On a lighter note I experienced much mana on this trip. Mana is a word in which interestingly enough there is no translation for in English. It is sort of a magical, healing or spiritual feeling one gets from the environment. I am now trying to discover it here in everyday life. This week we have a visit with mermaid Daughter of the Sun, a chia seed porridge recipe, and discover Eco Green Warrior Vandana Shiva who is showing us how to save our seeds, our health and our future.

This week my house is featured on Remodolista one of my most favorite sites for home decor. Thank you to Jenni Kayne for the great article!

Until next time cherish your seeds and look for mana . . .
