Tea on the Avery Lawn
Tea Setting
Tea on the Avery Lawn is a stylish affair that, for $25, includes a traditional tea with sweet and savory treats, a demo of a Japanese tea ceremony, apprentices from Opera Fort Collins performing selections from Madame Butterfly, a silent auction, and a tour of the new Avery House exhibit highlighting the Avery family's early-1900s Japan tours.

The event runs 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and includes a special tour of the Avery House with a focus on a new exhibit that details the family's two trips to the Far East. See heirlooms from those trips and learn about the influence of Asian art on American aesthetics at the turn of the 19th century.

Buy tea tickets online (click the button below) or at several local stores (Downtown Ace Hardware, The Cupboard, The Perennial Gardener).

Birney Streetcar Lends Nostalgic Charm to Mountain Avenue
The restored Birney Car #21 runs on Mountain Avenue Saturdays and Sundays and vividly evokes a bygone era as it trundles along its 3-mile roundtrip route between City Park and Howes Street. As the car passes the Avery House, you can feel for a moment as if you've stepped back in time. In this 1937 photo looking west down Mountain Avenue, the spire of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Avery House's neighbor to the east, is visible.

The streetcar is operated by the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society, an all-volunteer organization working with the City of Fort Collins to provide a heritage streetcar experience. Catch a ride on the streetcar, 12-5 p.m., Saturdays & Sundays, May-September. Adults $2, seniors & children $1, kids under 3 free.
