Fort Collins History:Looking Back
Valentine Treasure
Found at
Local History Archives
The Martha Scott Trimble Collection at the Fort Collins History Archives holds many treasures, including a valentine that Martha received from a loved one.
Have you shopped for a hand-crafted gift at Trimble Court, or seen the Trimble Business Block in Old Town Fort Collins? If so, you can thank Martha's family for their contributions to the establishment of our great community.
Martha's grandfather moved his family to Fort Collins in 1874 and quickly opened many local businesses. Upon Martha's death in 1994, the Fort Collins Local History Archives received the donation of her extensive collection of personal mementos, photographs, letters, and documents dating back to 1865. Martha certainly left her mark on the world, having been a CSU professor after serving the U.S. Navy in World War II in the WAVE program.
Who sent the Valentine to Martha? The mystery is yours to uncover through a visit to the Local History Archives. The Archives are located in the new Fort Collins Museum of Discovery at 408 Mason Court in Old Town Fort Collins. The Archives are open to the public Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. - Noon and 1 - 5 p.m. Volunteers and staff are ready to help you discover your own treasure from Fort Collins past!
