CHRISTMAS AT AUNTIE
STONE'S CABIN
1866

Residents of Fort Collins celebrated Christmas in 1866 with a gathering at Auntie Stone's cabin.

Elizabeth "Auntie" and Lewis Stone moved to Fort Collins in 1864 and quickly built their log cabin which would serve as the officers' mess and a hotel. Lewis died in 1866, but that didn't stop Auntie Stone from hosting parties and holiday celebrations at her cabin.

The Auntie Stone Cabin has been beautifully preserved and is located in the courtyard of the old Carnegie Building at 200 Mathews Street in downtown Fort Collins.
