Do Water Softeners harm your Septic ??

For 30 years industry professionals debated if salt-brine discharge was toxic to Bacteria in the septic system.  Another concern was the volume of water going to the septic from a Softener and it's effect on the settling process.  Major studies were conducted by the Water Quality Research Council is 2001; but some questions still remained.

The Water Quality Research Foundation commissioned Virginia Polytechnic Institute to conduct independent and scientific testing.  According to authors of the study: The data indicates that the use of efficiently operated Water Softeners improve septic tank performance.

Please note - that inefficient Softeners that are malfunctioning may have a negative effect (be sure to have your unit serviced on-time !!).
