Children's Lip Gloss found with Lead
Lead was found in one brand of sparkly lip gloss marketed to children; complete with princess packaging. When an Iowa child's lead levels were close to double; the search was on for the source. The lip gloss was tested by EMSL Analystical and found to be the source; according to their May 2013 Press Release. Upon examination, the parents observed the lip gloss had a warning label stating to keep the product "out of the reach of children".
Contaminated products do make their way to U.S. stores and markets according to EMSL. A lesson learned for all parents and consumers - read labels and be diligent about all consumables.
