Protect your identity with free shredding of sensitive, but outdated documents. Bring up to three bags or boxes. If possible, use bags or boxes that can be shredded along with papers.

Spanish Lake Grandmother Loses $2000 In Sweepstakes Scam

A 73-year-old grandmother from Spanish Lake said she never suspected the caller who phoned her on St. Patrick's Day morning was part of an elaborate scheme to steal her money.

After all, the St. Louis County woman had been entering the Publisher's Clearinghouse Sweepstakes for years. And now the caller was telling her she finally had won - a $500,000 second prize. It was easy to believe the good news.

It would not be until several days later - long after she sent a $2,000 wire transfer to the Philippines - that she finally realized the call had no connection to Publisher's Clearinghouse and she had been duped.

Cosmetics Customers Say Adore, Forever Flawless Misled Them

Adore Cosmetics and Forever Flawless, two skin care companies with a history of Better Business Bureau (BBB) complaints in other cities over high-pressure and misleading sales tactics, are facing similar complaints about the companies' operations at two St. Louis County shopping malls.

BBB advises consumers to exercise caution when dealing with sales staff at the Adore store and kiosk in West County Center and the Forever Flawless store in Plaza Frontenac.

United Auto Defense Ignored Refund Requests; Faces Minnesota Lawsuit

Motorists who bought vehicle service contracts from United Auto Defense say the St. Charles, Mo., company ignored their requests for refunds for months, even though the firm acknowledged it owed the money, BBB warns. In several cases, United Auto Defense finally issued refunds only after consumers filed complaints with BBB; in a few cases, refunds remain unpaid.


Tanesha Taylor said the contractor left a heating installation unfinished over the winter.

BBB Warns About C&H Construction, Chris Hooker After Numerous Complaints

Customers of C & H Construction and Christopher Hooker

say the St. Louis area contractor abandoned them after taking money for jobs ranging from auto repair to kitchen remodeling, BBB warns.

The company has an "F" rating with BBB, the lowest possible as a result of unanswered complaints.
