Students and parents who ordered textbooks from Textbooks Local, a company using an address in St. Louis County, say the company took their money but never delivered the promised books.
Several customers from across the nation filed complaints with BBB, alleging Textbooks Local never sent their merchandise, never responded to their emails or phone calls and never issued refunds. Two consumers told BBB their credit cards were charged twice for the same book.

Customers of All American Remodeling and its owner, Donald J. Harralston of Arnold, Mo., took their deposits for remodeling and repair work but did either no work or poorly done workmanship. Several customers have filed small claims court actions against Harralston, claiming he reneged on promises to do roofing, siding or other contracting jobs. In three cases since July, judges in St. Louis and Jefferson counties ordered default judgments when Harralston did not appear for hearings.

BBB Accreditation Revoked

BBB expects Accredited Businesses to respond to complaints and make a good faith effort to resolve them. BBB recently expelled four companies who failed to be responsive to consumers or who did not make a good faith effort to resolve the complaints.

Read Layaway Contracts Before You Sign; Ask About Fees

Layaway can be an attractive option for buying big-ticket items without paying interest, especially if you don't have a credit card. Plans vary among stores, so BBB advises that you read the contract carefully and ask about fees, such as fees to set up or close a layaway account.

YWCA Metro St. Louis Tackles Tough Social Issues, Provides Services 

YWCA Metro St. Louis is a BBB Accredited Charity with more than 111 years of providing services to the St. Louis community. Its Sexual Assault Response Team provides clothing and support to victims of sexual violence at police stations, it operates Head Start programs and provides cultural competence training in racial justice to professionals in agencies, organizations and businesses. Other activities including training teenagers to become leaders in their communities.
