SBDC aids a safe place for kids to have fun in Paintsville
Being a mother of two children, Lisa Kemplin wanted to start a business that she and her children could enjoy together. She also knew there was a need for a safe place where parents could bring their kids and have fun without worry. A native of Johnson County, Kemplin was aware of the lack of inflatable fun centers in her home town. So Kemplin and her husband, Billy, decided to start "Rompin Ground," an inflatable fun zone geared toward all ages. Kemplin met with Michelle Spriggs, Small Business Development Center management consultant, in June 2013 to receive guidance on the proper procedures of opening a business. The Kentucky SBDC has 15 offices state-wide with more than 30 years of experience. The Paintsville SBDC office has provided free small business consulting services for more than 10 years to the citizens of Breathitt, Floyd, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Magoffin, Martin, Owsley, Pike and Wolfe counties. Kemplin and Spriggs met again in August to review her business plan, projections and marketing plan. Kemplin through personal financing opened Rompin Ground, LLC, Dec. 16. "The SBDC was wonderful to work with and assisted us in every business aspect of our start-up. Michelle answered all our questions and offered her assistance in every aspect of our business from start to finish. I will continue to use the SBDC services as my business grows and changes," said Kemplin. Rompin Ground offers inflatable private parties. Also available and included in the party package are arcade games, vending machines, party tables, surround sound music system, and much more. Parties can be booked 7 days a week with hours available to meet customers' needs and schedules.
Kemplin plans to have her mobile inflatables up and running by the spring to meet the demand for on-site inflatable parties.
