What Staff are Reading

 Elaine just finished...

The Red Queen
by Victoria Aveyard

"Red Queen" by Victoria Aveyard falls into a genre of YA fiction that has been getting a lot of attention, sort of a mashup between modern technology, fantasy and dystopia. I'm appreciating the fresh interpretation of a popular idea, and the characters are strong and well developed. Mare impressively handles what is thrown at her as she tries to shift between living to survive, and surviving a game of political intrigue. Throw in some X-Men-like super powers for the ruling class, a Spartacus-style fighting ring, and a world where no one is as they seem; stir well, and you get "Red Queen." What will this powerful redblooded lower class girl mean for the Silvers who have dominated their world?
The sequel, "Glass Sword" was recently published, and I'm planning on devouring that next. Those who enjoyed the Throne of Glass series by Sarah Maas will really enjoy this.
