Big Guys Needed to Read to Little Guys
Queen Anne's County Library and Queen Anne's County Schools are delighted to announce funding of the
2016 Guys Read Project by the Rural Maryland Council!

Establishing male readers as role models helps to counter a wide-spread stereotype of reading as a feminine activity. Showing reluctant readers that books can be fun will encourage them to read and use the library. Big guys volunteering their lunchtime will make a huge difference in the lives of little guys.

For the program to be successful we need men in the community to become volunteer readers. Teams of three volunteers will visit each of the six schools, eight times, to read for twenty minutes. Visits will take place for two schools in each of the months of January, February and March of 2016. Volunteers can choose to participate in only a couple or many sessions depending on their schedules.

Volunteers are required to attend a one hour training session on Tuesday, December 8 at 10 a.m. at the Kent Island Library or at 7 p.m. at the Centreville Library.

What Staff are Reading
Kim is reading...

Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal

Showing the ways in which food provides us with both comfort and community, this novel is by turns quirky, hilarious, and heartbreaking. Each chapter in this startlingly original debut tells the story of how a single dish or ingredient came into one girl's life - culminating in an opulent, emotional feast that's a testament to her spirit and resilience. This is a book you will read in one huge bite, but savor for a long time to come.
