Each year, Kent Island Day commemorates the founding of Kent Island in 1631 with a parade down Main Street, historic exhibits, displays, activities, food, vendors, costumes, activities for kids and crafts. For more information click here!

 Cooking for Kids

Rob Glass, a KIHS teacher, leads "Cooking for Kids: Easy No Heat Recipes for Kids and Parents." This month, in celebration of Food Revolution Day, we will plant vegetables in our children's garden with pans to harvest them for our August cooking class.  Please register at calendar.qaclibrary.org.
 
STEM Saturday: Bubble Science

Create a bubble wand to blow bubbles! In addition to using the engineering design process, students will practice measuring capacity when they assist the instructor in mixing the bubble solution. BLAST Babysitters Class

For ages 11 to 17 - This training program is for potential teenage babysitters.

BLAST BABYSITTERS CLASS (AAP - American Academy of Pediatrics/taught by Keep the Beat Training)
This 3-4 hour training program is for potential teenage babysitters. The BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training) program provides training in pediatric first aid, household safety
, and the fundamentals of childcare. In addition, this course
helps prepare children to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable games and activities, prevent accidents, perform first aid and CPR, and begin babysitting safely and competently. Topics covered include: feeding, burping a baby, 
spoon-feeding, crying, and preparing for bed, behavioral problems, and discipline. This is a fun class, with baby manikins to diaper and feed! Pocket guidebooks will be included and you will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Disaster Preparedness and Recovery: Where I've Been and What I've Learned

Tuesday, July 28 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Vicki Lee, Director of Conservation and Preservation at the Maryland State Archives, will be sharing insights from some of her in-house, national and international archival rescue missions.  She will also touch upon some preparation measures and ways of thinking that can mitigate damage and loss in our own emergencies at home.
