Book Discussion Group at Annie's
What is better than reading a good book?
How about discussing that book with new friends during happy hour on the patio at Annie's?


Join in on the fun of this newly forming book discussion group which will meet the 4th Tuesday of the month beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Annie's Paramount Steak and Seafood House in Grasonville.

Earth Day - Adopt a Road for a Day!
 
Wednesday, April 22 -  From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Queen Anne's County is partnering with Infinity Recycling in Millington on this project. The partnership will allow those participating to collect plastic bottles, aluminum cans and glass bottles in one clear trash bag and all other non-recyclable trash in a black trash bag. Recycling will be FREE and easy if these simple instructions are followed.

Free gloves, trash bags and reflective vests will be available throughout the County beginning April 13. Pick up your supplies and "Adopt-A-Road-For-Earth-Day 2015!" Locations will be announced and delivery arrangements for supplies can be arranged for large groups or businesses.

Robot Invasion!
 

The Robots Are Coming!

 

The Kent Island Branch has received a six-month loan of eight Finch Robots (finchrobot.com). The robots will arrive in May. To prepare to program them, the library will offer introductory coding classes.

 

Languages supported by Finch include Snap!, Scratch, Python, Javascript, and more. Children from age 4 through high school can program the robots for movement, light, and sound.

 

If anyone in your family is interested in being part of a new CoderDojo (coding club for ages 7-17 and parents, too!), a cooperative project among QACPS, Computer Island, and QAC Library, please express your interest via a brief survey at http://goo.gl/aY3ZZ2

Read to a dog from Pets on Wheels to develop reading skills and confidence. Please call to register. 

Story Time

For ages 2 to 5 with an adult
Read, sing, play, write, and talk about a different theme each week. On Arpil 23 we welcome the Office of Oral Health for dental health story time with dental care goodie bags for each child.  


 

Stories and Art

For ages 2 to 5 with an adult
Read some fish stories and then make an undersea
picture in the style of Ed Emberley's art.

Saturday Art: Recycled Vases with Flowering Seedlings

Saturday, April 25 at 10:00 a.m.

For Kdg. to 5th grade

Reuse a plastic container to design a vase using decoupage and other decorative techniques. We'll plant a seedling inside so you'll leave with something to decorate your porch or to cultivate as a Mother's Day gift. Supplies provided, although we'd welcome the donation of rinsed, 2-liter bottles prior to the event.
Saturday Art is funded in part by the Queen Anne's County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council with support from Friends of the Queen Anne's County Library and Eastern Shore Regional Library. No registration is required.

Creative writing workshop featuring your choice of poetry, short fiction and creative non-fiction. We'll do free writing and creative prompts. New writers always welcome!
 
 

BLAST Babysitters Class 
Monday, April 27 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. (waiting list only)
Saturday, June 6 from 1:30 to 5:00 p.m.
For ages 11 to 17 - This training program is for potential teenage babysitters.
The training is designed to last 3 to 3.5 hours. We will also take a brief dinner break. The library will provide pizza, drinks and a fruit/veggie side, or you may bring your own meal/snacks. Please do let Ms Julie know of any food allergies. Please register online using our new  events calendar.

BLAST BABYSITTERS CLASS (AAP - American Academy of Pediatrics/taught by Keep the Beat Training)
This 3-4 hour training program is for potential teenage babysitters. The BLAST! (Babysitter Lessons and Safety Training) program provides training in pediatric first aid, household safety
, and the fundamentals of childcare. In addition, this course helps prepare children to interview for a babysitting job, select safe and suitable games and activities, prevent accidents, perform first aid and CPR, and begin babysitting safely and competently. Topics covered include: feeding, burping a baby, 
spoon-feeding, crying, and preparing for bed, behavioral problems, and discipline. This is a fun class, with baby manikins to diaper and feed! Pocket guidebooks will be included and you will be awarded a certificate of completion.

Genealogy Club

Are you interested in learning about your family genealogy, but have no idea how to go about researching it? Have you been researching for years and are excited to share your discoveries with others? The Genealogy Club meets the first Tuesday every month. Each session will offer researchers a chance to learn about different websites and databases that can provide useful information as well as time for discussion and research using Library materials.
