from the privacy of your home 
or anywhere you have Internet access.

Just log into your library account and look for the PAY check box at the right of the amount due.

Food For Fines
Library offers fine amnesty for food donations.

 

During the month of February, library customers with fines can bring one unexpired canned or boxed food item to the library to have $1 taken off their bill.  This offer is only for overdue fines, with a maximum of $10 to be taken off each record (excludes lost or damaged items).

 

The collected food and items will be given to local church food pantries that are in need.

 

Most needed items are...

 

Spaghetti, ravioli, stews, soups, tuna, peanut butter & jelly, canned fruits and veggies, 100% juice & juice boxes, granola bars, popcorn, crackers, cereal, rice and pasta.

 

Personal and baby products are also welcome...

 

Diapers, wipes, formula, infant cereal, toothbrushes & toothpaste, soap, shaving items, shampoo & conditioner, toilet tissue, paper towels and tissues.

What is better than reading a good book? How about discussing that book with new friends during happy hour at the Lounge at Annie's?

Join in on the fun of this newly forming book discussion group which will meet the 4th Tuesday of the month beginning at 6:00 p.m. at Annie's Paramount Steak and Seafood House in Grasonville.

March 24 - Delancey: a Man, a Woman, a Restaurant, a Marriage by Molly Wizenberg

April 28 - The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister.

Friends of the Library
The Friends of Queen Anne's County Library held its annual meeting on January 27, 2015.
Sue Haddox, Kathie Smarick, and Carol Franks-Randall were elected as Directors and the following officers will serve the organization this year: President - Mary Jackson; Vice President - Chloe Norton; Secretary - Penny Lins; and Treasurer - Connie Zillig.

David Clark, chef of 208 Talbot in St. Michaels, talked about his culinary background and treated the audience of nearly 40 to two soups - vegetable crab and potato leek. Valerie, his wife, provided background on the two wines she selected to complement the soups.

STEM Saturdays: Gum Drop Tower 
Saturday, Feb. 14 
Ages 4 to 7 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. 
Ages 8 to 12 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon   
Use the engineering design process to see who can build the tallest tower using only Valentine's Day gum drops and toothpicks. Taught by QACPS teacher, Stephanie Wishart. Future topics are Leprechanun Balloon Rockets, Project Easter Egg, and Bubble Science. Made possible by a donation from the Sinsky-Kresser-Racusin Memorial Foundation. Reservation required. Saturday Art: Introduction to Brush and Sponge Techniques  
Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2:30 p.m.
For grades K to 5
Use acrylic paints in Valentine's Day colors on canvas while learning wet and dry brush and sponge techniques. Each student will take home a finished painting. Taught by Alex Sabo of A Girl and A Brush and Kent Island Library's mural artist. This event has been funded in part by the Queen Anne's County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council. Space is limited to the first 25 to arrive.

National Tooth Fairy Day Story Time

The staff of Billings, Murphy & Soistman, DDS will read a book in celebration of national Tooth Fairy Day. Dental goodie bags will be available. (Wings, tuts, and wands are optional!)


Saturday Art: Beaded Shamballa Bracelets 
Saturday, February 28 at 10:00 a.m.
For grades K to 5
Learn the macrame weave, which is a series of special knots, to create an adjustable bracelet that is trendy and fun to wear for boys and girls alike. Taught by Melissa Kay-Steves of Charmtree Jewelry. This event has been funded in part by the Queen Anne's County Arts Council and the Maryland State Arts Council.

Each session will offer researchers a chance to learn about different websites and databases that can provide useful information as well as time for discussion and research using Library materials.

A good way to honor a friend or loved one is to donate a memorial book to the library. The cash donation is used to purchase a new book in the subject area/age level requested. A book plate with the honoree and donor's name is placed in the book and a letter is sent to the relatives to let them know about the donation.
