Library Friends Events
Join the Friends of the Queen Anne's County Library!

The Friends is a non-profit organization that advocates for the Library. The Friends spend their time and talents building valuable bridges between the Library and the community, with the goal to generate financial support for the Library and its programs and services. The Friends will help support the Library's 2014 Summer Reading Program.

All residents and organization are invited to join us on...

Thursday, May 8 at the Centreville Branch from 5 to 7 p.m.

Saturday, May 10 at the Kent Island Branch from 2 to 4 p.m.

This is an opportunity to learn more about the Friends and its planned activities, sample sweet treats, enter a raffle to win a Barnes and Noble gift card and meet the Friends Board of Directors and other Friends of the Library.

If you can't make the dates you can still join the Friends by picking up a brochure at the circulation desk at either branch and read about the benefits of becoming a Friend of the Queen Anne's County Library.

Animal Resource Foundation, Inc. (ARF) is a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation dedicated to saving and improving the lives of animals throughout the mid-Atlantic region by rescuing from animal shelters.

We believe no animal deserves to be abandoned, neglected, abused or arbitrarily killed.

Through the creation of public awareness opportunities, outreach programs, providing a nurturing environment for rehabilitation and a spay/neuter program ARF is able to make adoption the practical alternative.

Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
Thursday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m.
Book Discussion Group
To call Zora Neale Hurston's Their Eyes Were Watching God an "African American feminist classic" may be an accurate statement - it is certainly a frequent statement - but it is a misleadingly narrow and rather dull way to introduce a vibrant and achingly human novel. The 1937 novel narrates Janie Crawford's ripening from a vibrant, but voiceless, teenage girl into a woman with her finger on the trigger of her own destiny. Although Hurston wrote the novel in only seven weeks, Their Eyes Were Watching God breathes and bleeds a whole life's worth of urgent experience.

What Staff are Reading

Kim
 is reading...

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry by Gabrielle Zevin
A.J. Fikry's life is not what he expected it to be. His wife has died, his bookstore is failing and his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. And then a mysterious package appears at the bookstore that gives A.J. the ability to see everything anew. I found this to be a wonderful heartfelt love story between unlikely characters. Just like real life things don't work out as you expect, but by being open to new experiences and people you can find happiness.
