The Omnivore's Dilemma: a natural history of four meals by Michael Pollan
Thursday, March 20 at 7:00 p.m.
Book Discussion Group
In The Omnivore's Dilemma, Michael Pollan writes about how our food is grown -- what it is, in fact, that we are eating. The book is really three in one: The first section discusses industrial farming; the second, organic food, both as big business and on a relatively small farm; and the third, what it is like to hunt and gather food for oneself. And each section culminates in a meal -- a cheeseburger and fries from McDonald's; roast chicken, vegetables and a salad from Whole Foods; and grilled chicken, corn and a chocolate soufflé (made with fresh eggs) from a sustainable farm; and, finally, mushrooms and pork, foraged from the wild.
Author Roland Reed
Thursday, March 20 from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m.
Something about Maryland Lunchtime Program
Local author, playwright, director and sculptor, Roland Reed, will talk about his first two books. His adult novel, The Driver and His Wife, is about love and gang war in the roaring 20's in North Carolina and the changes it brings to a young couple. His young adult selection, The Odyssey of the Young Dragon, is the exciting and dangerous adventures of a Chinese teenage girl and her younger brother who are taken by force to a distant city and dumped. Like Odysseus, their great challenge is finding the way back home. He will also answer questions about the process of writing and publishing in today's market. Bring a lunch to eat while you learn. A sweet treat will be provided by the library.
Computer & e-Reader/Tablet Assistance
Do you have questions about a Microsoft Office product? Or maybe you have questions about how to download a library book to your e-Reader. We can help answer your computer and e-Reader questions at the Centreville Branch. One-on-one tutorial sessions are available. Just call 410-758-0980 to set up an appointment today.

Kristin is reading...
Seventeen-year-old Davy Hamilton has it all: she's popular at school, has the best boyfriend, and parents who can buy her out of any situation. Any situation, that is, until she is tested positive for Homicidal Tendency Syndrome, which means one day she will be a murderer. After being kicked out of her private school and sent to the "Cage" with five other HTS carrying high school students, she must learn where the real danger lurks. Inside her? Inside the "Cage"? Or is it waiting for her on the outside?
Other staff are reading...
