John is reading...
If you like a good suspense novel with plenty of international intrigue then you should read Daniel Silva's latest novel, The English Girl. This novel is the 13th installment in the Gabriel Allon Series. Gabriel is a reclusive art restorer and part-time master spy and deadly assassin for Israeli Intelligence. The suspense builds early in the book as Gabriel leaves Jerusalem and travels to London, Corsica, Marseilles, Northern France and Moscow to uncover the plot behind the kidnapping of Madeline Hart, the secret mistress of the British Prime Minister. Gabriel, who prefers to work alone, realized he needs the help of someone with a specific skill set so he calls on Christopher Keller, the free-lance assassin who was once hired to kill Gabriel. The hunt for the missing girl uncovers a plot involving greed and corruption at the highest level of government as well as a secret about Madeline the kidnapped girl.

Book Discussion Group
Join us to discuss William Golding's classic tale about a group of English school boys who are plane wrecked on a deserted island. It is just as chilling and relevant today as when it was first published in 1954. At first, the stranded boys cooperate, attempting to gather food, make shelters and maintain signal fires. The situation deteriorates as the trappings of civilization continue to fall away.
Bel Canto by Ann Patchett Thursday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. Book Discussion Group In an unnamed South American country, a world-renowned soprano sings at a birthday party in honor of a visiting Japanese industrial titan. His hosts hope that Mr. Hosokawa can be persuaded to build a factory in their Third World backwater. Alas, in the opening sequence, just as the accompanist kisses the soprano, a ragtag band of 18 terrorists enters the vice-presidential mansion through the air conditioning ducts. Their quarry is the president, who has unfortunately stayed home to watch a favorite soap opera. And thus, from the beginning, things go awry. Refreshments will be served.
