What We're Reading

Debbie is Reading. . . The Light in the Ruins by Chris Bohjalian

As I enjoy reading historical fiction, Bohjalian's writing and the setting - Italy, it was almost a given that I would like this book as well.  It did not disappoint.  The interweaving of the two story lines between the events of the 1940s and the serial killings of 1955 keep the reader interested to the last page.

The Story of the "Little Red Hen"

Children at the Kent Island Branch learned how to use the free iPad app 30 Hands to creatively and collaboratively tell the story of  "The Little Red Hen".  Rachael Stein from the Eastern Shore Regional Library first told the story "Gunny Wolf" and showed everyone a 30 Hands example of "The Three Little Pigs." Then we all worked together with props to create scenes and add narration.

Lord of the Flies by William Goldman
Thursday, December 19 at 7 p.m.
Book Discussion Group
Join us to discuss William Golding's classic tale about a group of English school boys who are plane wrecked on a deserted island.  It is just as chilling and relevant today as when it was first published in 1954. At first, the stranded boys cooperate, attempting to gather food, make shelters and maintain signal fires.  The situation deteriorates as the trappings of civilization continue to fall away.
