Tablet Magic Story Hour

Together we will use an iPad app to create a story, such as a fractured fairy tale. Small groups will use toys, puppets and props to  represent a story scene. Join us for a fun mix of storytelling and technology!  Presented by Rachael Stein of the Eastern Shore Regional Library.

Meet one of the Maryland Zoo's animal ambassadors as the ZOOMobile team presents an interactive
reading of a wildlife-themed children's book and an animal-related craft.

Roll right out of bed and wear your PJs to enjoy stories, songs and rhymes.  Bring a new pair of pajamas (toddler sizes through pre-teen) to donate to the Pajama Program. Face painting and goodie bags provided by the Pajama Program.

It's "Reader's Choice" month! Join the Tuesday Nighters Book Club as we discuss books that feature a food theme, either in the title or the subject of the book. Any type of book! Yes, even 50 Shades of Chicken.  Light refreshments will be provided and you can bring in a recipe mentioned in your book.  We will also be selecting books to read in 2014, so bring in some suggestions.

Create reviews in the catalog of books you have read recently.  For every review you write in the catalog you can choose a book that is yours to keep from our prize stash! To receive your book, show a library staff member your review.

Edible Book Project
Friday, October 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
For grades 6 - 12
Pick up a take-out project kit containing everything you need to make your own edible books.  Using fruit leather and white chocolate you can make your books delectable.  Pick up your supplies in the children's room or at the circulation desk.


Teen Movie Night - Warm Bodies
Friday, October 25 from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.
For teens 13 - 18 - the movie is rated PG-13
Come to the library to watch the movie Warm Bodies based on the book by Isaac Marion and loosely based on the play Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare. Bring a friend to enjoy a good movie and snacks!

King Peggy by Peggielene Bartels & Eleanor Herman

Book Discussion Group 

King Peggy chronicles the astonishing journey of an American secretary who suddenly finds herself king to a town of 7,000 souls on Ghana's central coast, half a world away. Upon arriving for her crowning ceremony in beautiful Otuam, she discovers the dire reality: there's no running water, no doctors, no high school, and many of the village elders are stealing the town's funds.  Peggy's first two years as king of Otuam unfold in a way that is stranger than fiction.

Vice Questore Patta asks Brunetti to look into a minor shop keeping violation committed by the mayor's future daughter-in-law.  Brunettti has no interest in helping his boss amass political favors, but he has little choice but to comply. Then Brunetti's wife, Paola, comes to him with a request of her own.  The mentally handicapped man who worked at their dry cleaner has just died of a sleeping pill overdose, and Paola loathes the idea that he lived and died without anyone noticing him, or helping him.  When Brunetti starts to investigate, however, he finds no records that the man even 
existed and the man's mother refuses to speak of him.
