Archaeology in the Community
June 18 from 10:30 a.m. to noon
For 2nd thru 6th grade
Archaeologists from this nonprofit educational organization reveal how archaeologists uncover secrets of the past. After hearing about it, you will have the chance to do a mock excavation!  
    
 
 
Gardening Club
Mondays, June 24, July 1, 8, 15 and 22 at 6:30 p.m.
For Kdg. thru 5th grade
Plant and maintain a garden at the library.  Read stories about gardening and make projects to take to your home garden. 
  
  
American Girl Club

Interested in creating your very own Anime character? Artist and Japanese culture enthusiast Hanna Kingsley will lead participants through the process of character creation from initial drafts to the final inking with an exploration of color techniques along the way. Registration is requested but walk-ins are welcome if space permits.

Cupcake Wars
Wednesday, July 24 from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.
For grades 6-12
Bake and decorate mini cupcakes for a taste/presentation challenge judged by the librarians. Please sign up beginning on June 17 to receive a list of available ingredients and supplies. You may wish to bring your own secret ingredients and special kitchen tools. Recipe research assistance will be available all summer to help you plan. Winners will be invited (but not required) to bake for our summer reading wrap-up party and will be featured in the library newsletter. Call 410-643-8161.

Midweek Maker Meet Up

Design and bake a shrink-plastic ring. Create your design using ink pens or rubber stamps and bake it in our toaster oven. (Not sure this is for you? See beautiful, finished examples online with a Google Image search for "shrink plastic ring").
 
 
Oral History - Traditions of Storytelling
Wednesday, June 26 at 7:00 p.m.
Local historian and author Brent Lewis has recorded many oral history interviews with local county residents, particularly with A History of the Kent Island Fire Department. In addition to talking about how he used the interviews in his books, Lewis will be discussing techniques for how to conduct an oral history interview.  Questions? Call 410-643-8161.

Each group will get a cupcake or cake and will be allowed 30 minutes to decorate it with the supplies provided and the secret ingredient that has to be used. Registration required. The Light Between Oceans by M.L. Stedman
Thursday, June 20 beginning at 7 p.m.
Book Discussion Group  
After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day's journey from the coast. To this isolated island, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel.  Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby's cries on the wind.  A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.
