Guest presenters Tanner Sparks and Alex Champion of the Maryland State Archives will be bringing their Legacy of Slavery in Maryland research project to the Library. Their presentation will be about the Queen Anne's County slaves who freed themselves (or attempted to) through freedom petitions or by taking up arms for the United States Colored Troops in the Civil War. Bring a lunch to eat while listening to Bess Trout of the Chesapeake Bay Foundation talk about The State of the Bay Report. The 2012 Report shows progress, but much more needs to be done to save our national treasure. Come learn what you can do to help. Dessert will be provided by the Library.

Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin
Join us as we discuss the book that inspired the Oscar-buzzed film, Lincoln: Team of Rivals doesn't just tell the story of Abraham Lincoln. It is a multiple biography of the entire team of personal and political competitors that he put together to lead the country through its greatest crisis. Here, Doris Kearns Goodwin profiles five of the key players in her book, four of whom contended for the 1860 Republican presidential nomination and all of whom later worked together in Lincoln's cabinet.
