Teachers and Staff received Training

Thirteen Coralwood staff members, including the Principal, participated in a 30-hour Orton-Gillingham training this summer.

Orton-Gillingham is an instructional approach intended primarily for use with persons who have difficulty with reading, spelling, and writing of the sort associated with dyslexia.

Orton-Gillingham teaching sessions are action-oriented and involve constant interaction between the teacher and the student and the simultaneous use of multiple sensory input channels reinforcing each other for optimal learning. Using auditory, visual, and kinesthetic elements, all language skills taught are reinforced by having the student listen, speak, read and write. For example, a dyslexic learner is taught to see the letter A, say its name and sound and write it in the air/sand - all at the same time. The approach requires intense instruction with ample practice. The use of multiple input channels is thought to enhance memory storage and retrieval by providing multiple "triggers" for memory.

Thank you from the Coralwood Foundation
The Coralwood Foundation would like to thank all who attended and helped to make the 3rd Annual Homecoming Event on Friday, September 5th, a huge success. It was a terrific afternoon filled with music from Little Beat Music, aka DJ Willy Wow, pizza, lemonade, and Bruster's ice cream. It was great to see old friends back at the school and to meet those who are new to our community! The Coralwood Foundation is committed to supporting the needs of our school so stay tuned for details about our annual fundraising campaign, called the "Coralwood Challenge", which kicks off on September 29th
Thanks again for your ongoing support. We look forward to seeing you at future events throughout the school year because together we shine!
