Dear Parents:

We are having an excessive number of parents checking out their children early from school every afternoon at about 2:15 p.m.  Not only is this a disruption to the entire class's instruction, the child being checked out is missing important academic content.  Many parents may think, "It's just PreK or Kindergarten and my child knows so much already," but Coralwood's PreK and Kindergarten are crucial educational years where the foundations of rigorous academic skills are taught to be built upon in subsequent school years.  Without this strong foundation students can struggle academically in the future.  We teach to (and beyond) the Kindergarten CCGPS (Common Core Georgia Performance Standards) and the PreK GELDS (Georgia Early Learning and Development Standards) in all subject areas, which is required by the State of Georgia and DeKalb County School District.  It is critical that your child be present every day and for its entirety.  We teach from "bell to bell," capturing every instructional minute.

Students in PreK and Kindergarten start to walk to the cafeteria for dismissal at the 2:25 p.m. bell.  Carpool starts at 2:30 p.m.  We ask that you wait until 2:25 p.m. to check out your child.  You may come to the cafeteria at 2:25 p.m. to pick your child up there.

I thank you in advance for preserving the quality and integrity of educational time for all our students in the class by eliminating early check-out and instructional disruptions.

Warm Regards,

Melanie D. Castelle, Ph.D.

New Parent Reception
August 28 at 5:30pm
We are hosting an evening meet and greet for new parents immediately before the Curriculum Night at 5:30pm in the Media Center (August 28)!  Join Dr. Melanie Castelle for light refreshments while getting to know each other better.

PTA General Meeting
August 28 at 6 pm in the Cafeteria followed by Curriculum Night (an adult-only event). After the PTA meeting, parents will be released to visit their students' classrooms to meet their teachers and learn about what the school year has in store for them!

PTA Membership and Fund
We ask that all families join the PTA at the start of the school year. The $55 PTA fund ($20 additional for 2nd and 3rd child) donation is critical to fund our cultural arts events, children's activities, classroom funds, holiday programs, Spring Fling, and numerous other events,in addition to national dues and the mundane everyday supplies needed by our teachers and staff. Please click here to download the PTA form if you did not attend Open House and return to the PTA treasurer's box in the front office.

PTA Volunteer Opportunities
The success of our school rests in parental involvement, whether it be stamping bags for holiday shop  or other prep work in the evenings or working a day shift at any of our numerous events (we ensure you do not miss your time with your child). Please consider signing up for one or more committees. The chairs will contact you via email as it gets closer to the date.
If you did not attend open house and/or did not have time to complete the volunteer form, we have provided you with an online link for our volunteer opportunities. Please click here for this form.

PTA Parent Social Is Next Month!
Save the Date and Get Your Sitter!
