James Island Presbyterian Church
February 27, 2015
Greetings!

This Sunday, March 1, will be our second Sunday of Lent. Throughout Lent, we are using Micah 6:8 as a framework to consider what it means to do that which God has declared good: doing justice, loving kindness and mercy, and walking humbly with our God. During worship on Sunday, we will continue our study as we look at Jesus' clarification of what it means to be a disciple: denying ourselves, taking up our crosses, and following Him.

As I reflect on these two concise teachings from God on what it means to be faithful, I realize that walking humbly with God as a follower of Christ will mean nothing less than total transformation and it will take nothing less than a lifetime to accomplish. During Lent, we make special efforts to focus our hearts and minds on new ways to be faithful to God as we prepare our hearts for Easter. These efforts help us to grow closer to God as we lay aside that which weighs us down and take up new practices that draw us near. However, the journey does not end on Easter Sunday. Instead, it is there that we pause to marvel at God's amazing gift of resurrection and continue on our walk with Him.

I hope you will join us this Sunday for worship as we gather around the Lord's Table to remember where our Lenten journey is headed and consider how we might follow Christ together. Taking time to gather for worship is a crucial step as we walk humbly with God together.

In Christ,

Also on Sunday, we are honored to welcome the Singers & Ringers of Presbyterian College. The PC Choir will be helping to lead our worship, beginning with an extended pre-service that will begin approximately 10 minutes before the scheduled start of worship.
