Greetings!

This week is Transfiguration Sunday before Ash Wednesday on February 18. The scripture reference this week is Mark 9:2-9:

Six days later, Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them, and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no one* on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, who were talking with Jesus. Then Peter said to Jesus, 'Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; let us make three dwellings,* one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.' He did not know what to say, for they were terrified. Then a cloud overshadowed them, and from the cloud there came a voice, 'This is my Son, the Beloved;* listen to him!' Suddenly when they looked around, they saw no one with them any more, but only Jesus.  As they were coming down the mountain, he ordered them to tell no one about what they had seen, until after the Son of Man had risen from the dead.

As we prepare for Lent at James Island Presbyterian, we are reflecting on Micah 6:8, "He has told you, O mortal, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?" We are taking time to look closely at ways that we are called to do "what is good" in the eyes of God. How do we work for justice? What does it mean to love kindness and mercy?  How can we walk humbly in relationship with God?

Please join us on February 18 for our Ash Wednesday worship service and dinner as we begin this six-week Lenten journey together. We trust that if our eyes are open, we will find this season to be full of opportunities to do "what is good" in the eyes of our Lord. Thankfully, we will not make this journey alone. God is with us and has surrounded us with brothers and sisters in faith to help us each step of the way.
