Greetings!
We're now in the last month of the government fiscal year and speculation about government spending has never been more uncertain. Over the last couple of months, we've attended several conferences and networking events. The topic on everyone's mind is what will happen to the government spending with so much talk about Sequestration and the Continuing Resolution.
For those that have not heard much about sequestration, the bottom line is in January 2013, budget cuts totaling 8 percent of spending across federal departments are set to go into effect due to an agreement made between Congress and the White House last summer in the debate over raising the debt ceiling.
While we don't know what impact this will have in our market-space, we do know that it is getting more competitive and margins are shrinking. So how do we survive in these tough times? We are working with several of our clients to find ways to controls costs and helping develop new pricing strategies. Many of our clients are also diversifying the agencies in which they operate. This does not necessarily mean deviating from their core capabilities, but finding similar type work across various funding streams to help alleviate the impacts of potential funding cuts. Some companies are also looking to diversify into the commercial space. Regardless of the outcome of sequestration, federal contractors must prepare for budget cuts-whether those cuts are forced by sequestration or by the reduced spending necessary to avoid it. A focus on communication, process, visibility into the business and the ability to adapt will be critical.
More information about sequestration can be found in the following section of our newsletter. I hope you find them useful.
Regards,
Laura Davis,
President
