In This Issue

Welcome to this week's News desk. This week we finalized out internal and external signage, finished installing the Trespa and continued planning for our Grand Opening Celebration on July 26th. It's been a long journey, but The Move is almost here!

Feedback and suggestions are always welcome. You can email them to me directly at: ED@ilrcsf.org

Move Update

We are almost done with the construction of what will very soon be San Francisco's ground-floor, purpose-built Independent Living Resource and Community Center! Check out this rendering of our new lobby!

Following this Fourth of July weekend, we will not have our Consumer Computer Station set up again until we move. Follow this link to find out more about this temporary shutdown: http://www.ilrcsf.org/events/consumer-computer-temporary-shutdown/

We're down to our final two weeks and dust is flying! To donate to The Move, simply click here.

ADA Anniversary Tool Kit

July 26, 2014 is the 24th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The ADA gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities similar to those provided to individuals on the basis of race, color, sex, national origin, age, and religion. It also assures equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities for access to businesses, employment, transportation, state and local government programs and services, and telecommunications.

The Pacific ADA Center encourages everyone to use their ADA Anniversary Tool Kit, which contains:

  • a sample Anniversary Proclamation for government officials;
  • an e-Postcard from the ADA National Network;
  • background and history on the ADA;
  • information about the Supreme Court's July 1999 Olmstead Decision;
  • disability statistics;
  • ADA case law updates; and
  • other resources on the ADA

Connecting kids with special healthcare needs to dentists

Mission Analytics is working with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services on a project to connect kids with healthcare needs to dentists. The federal government maintains a website (www.insurekidsnow.gov) that includes a Dental Locator to help families find dentists that serve Medicaid and CHIP children. Mission has been contracted by CMS to identify ways of improving the usability of this Dental Locator. To help inform CMS guidance in this area, we would like a better understanding of the challenges children with special healthcare needs face in finding dentists and how the Dental Locator can help. We would greatly appreciate an opportunity to speak with you for 30 minutes about these issues. If you are willing to speak with us, please let us know what days and times within the next several weeks are most convenient for you.
