Join us at THE FALMOUTH WALK!

The Falmouth Housing Trust is honored to have been included for the third year as The Falmouth Walk's charitable beneficiaries!  Join us for the 25th Annual Falmouth Walk on Saturday, August 15th.

The history of the Walk starts in 1991. Two old friends, Tommy Leonard, a bartender at the Quarterdeck Restaurant, and Eddie Doyle, a bartender at "Cheers" in Boston, came up the idea for the Falmouth Walk to benefit the Babe Ruth World Series. It attracted 40 walkers and raised $700. Last year, the 24th annual Walk had 675 registered walkers and raised $31,000. All proceeds go to local Falmouth charities.

The Walk takes a 3.2 mile scenic route beginning at Falmouth Town Hall Square, along Surf Drive beach to the inner harbor and back to Main Street ending at the beautiful grounds of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. A 1.5 mile shortcut is available. A picnic, raffle, silent and live auction follow.  Please bring cash or checks only ~ and if you'd like to donate an item please email here.

We step off at 10 AM. Registration takes place on Friday the 14th in the evening from 4:30 to 7:30 PM at the Quarterdeck Restaurant, 164 Main Street, and continues Saturday at 9:00 - 9:45 AM, and the entry fee is $20.

The charities that will benefit from the funds raised at this year's Walk are The Falmouth Military Support Group, The Falmouth Service Center, The Falmouth Housing Trust, The Friends of the Falmouth Senior Center, The Falmouth Prevention Partnership, The Ellen T. Mitchell Scholarship, Haven for Healing, Around the Table, and People for Cats.

Odd Fellows Adaptive Re-Use Project Moving Into Final Stages!
The Odd Fellows Hall project is about to take a GIANT leap forward in its progress!
We expect to close on financing in the next few weeks and start our project in earnest prior to the cold weather moving in.

Key aspects of the project are:
  • the interior will be entirely gutted,
  • the abatement of all hazardous materials to allow for full code compliance,
  • the replacement of all mechanical and electrical systems,
  • the renovation of the exterior of the building with the installation of new siding, energy efficient windows and doors, and a new roof,
  • tying the building into the sewer line,
  • re-landscaping, and the addition of a ramp and four tenant parking spaces,
  • solar panel installation on the replacement roof to harness renewable energy sources and reduce operating costs,
  • the two first floor apartments will be visitable, and the second story apartments will be standard.
We are still on track with the various administrative details being finalized and plan to start construction in the fall.

St. Marks Road Houses CLOSE!  New Owners Move In!  FHT Celebrates!

Pictured to the left are our new home-owners at St. Marks Road, photographed at the lottery held in May.

In June the Falmouth Housing Trust, Inc. welcomed our new home-owners, our project team, neighbors, funders, and the general public to an Open House & Dedication.  Guests were given tours by Falmouth Housing Trust board members. All enjoyed donuts, muffins, coffee and juices while we visited under a tent provided by the Barnstable County Sherif's Dept.

The project was a result of municipal action in 2010 and was awarded to the Falmouth Housing Trust, Inc. in 2012.  A comprehensive permit and Local Initiative Program application to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts allowed the creation of these three individual homes, which are deed-restricted in perpetuity.

Two of the homes are classic Cape Cod saltbox style and the third is a visitable ranch style home.  All have 3-bedrooms and 2-bathrooms, gas fired heat and hot water, Andersen windows, high R-value insulation, and an open floor plan.  Each house has a distinct 1/3 of an acre lot, but all share one curb cut off of St. Marks Road.  The homes are built to the Tier 1 Certified Energy Star standard  and are oriented on the lot to maximize southern exposure and privacy.

The northern tip of the 1-acre parcel, along Rt. 28, is a Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority bus stop, and will have a shelter installed for the community's use during the fall.

Special thanks to the Woods Hole Foundation, the Cape Cod 5 Cents Charitable Foundation, the Behren's Fund, the Town of FalmouthFalmouth Lumber, Falmouth Rod & Gun Club, the Barnstable County Sheriff's Department, the Falmouth Chamber of Commerce, Michael Duffany, and Joseph Martinho!

The project team included Michael Duffany, Christian Valle of The Valle Group, architect Bill Roslansky, and Tim Santos of Holmes & McGrath, and financing was provided by Cape Cod 5 Cents Savings Bank.
