Three New Homes Planned for St. Marks Road
St. Mark's Way The Falmouth Housing Trust was selected by the Town of Falmouth to develop three units of affordable home-ownership at this municipally owned site. The Trust is under agreement on the property with the Town of Falmouth.

On September 18th, FHT hosted a community meeting with neighbors of the property.  FHT shared their site, architectural, and landscape plans, and answers questions regarding the project from the group.

On October 22nd, representatives from the Department of Housing & Community Development came to Falmouth to make a site visit.  In November they issued their Site Eligibility letter on the project.  FHT's nest step is to file its Comprehensive Permit Application with the Town's Zoning Board of Appeals.  We expect to file in early January of 2014.

The project will include three freestanding homes, 1 1/2 stories tall, with one curb cut off St. Marks Road, and CCRTA bus stop at the top of the lot, along Route 28.  Each home will have three bedrooms and two bathes.  Two homes will be Saltbox style and the Ranch style will be visitable.  Houses are sited to maximize solar energy, although fundraising continues for this green-energy addition.

The sales price of the homes will be $185,000.  To complete a Ready-to-Buy application, click here.  Again, much more to come, and do stay tuned for updates.

Holidays at the Gerald Flynn House!

The holiday season can be a difficult time of year for someone who is newly recovering from addiction and mental health diagnoses. We were reminded of the fragility of our residents last weekend when one relapsed on a family pass for Thanksgiving.

The Gerald Flynn House has one vacancy currently with five individuals on our waiting list.  Living at the Flynn House now are six residents; one senior male U.S. Veteran, three middle aged women, one young woman, and another young man who is slated to graduate our program at the end of December.

Our graduate leaves us with a stable sober network in place, local employment, and rental housing in place.  His relationship with his family has been restored and he has been able to serve as a source of strength for his mother, who experienced a significant loss this past year.

As one resident experiences a set back and returns to treatment, another graduates and returns to independent living.  These numbers are right on for addiction recovery and treatment.

Some would say living in a sober house during the holidays is not the place you'd want to be. Our residents disagree. Holiday house meals are planned, and scents of fresh baked treats fill the air in the house, and yes, our tree is trimmed.

Our residents' holidays will include an AA or NA meeting in town, and perhaps a visit with family. The holiday meal will come from donations or the clearance section at our local grocery store. Like other celebrations going on around town, our folks spend the day together, share in the cooking and dinner preparations, and sit down and whisper a few grateful words for where they are.

If you'd like to make a food or holiday decoration donation to the Gerald Flynn House, please contact the Falmouth Housing Trust office to facilitate your kindness. As always, your generosity will be acknowledged on corporate letterhead prior to year-end.
