Greetings

Assuring you AFI-LLC investigators are licensed!
Last year a new law was passed making licensing of private investigators in Colorado mandatory.  We are excited to let you know that we are now both charter mandatory licensed private investigators in Colorado, effective June 1st.

Although we have every reason to believe being licensed does not change any faith our clients and colleagues have in us and our services, being licensed is as important to us as it is to you.

What is required to be licensed in Colorado?
-- Be 21 years of age or older and a US citizen;
-- Passing a jurisprudence exam on the rules, regulations and statutes of being a Colorado Licensed Private Investigator;
-- Passing a Colorado and FBI fingerprint criminal background check;
-- Securing a $10,000 surety bond for consumer protection; and
-- Level II - Demonstrating 4,000 hours or greater of experience (education can be included for up to 2,000 hours).

We are also licensed in Cheyenne WY for Private Investigation & Security.  What is required?
-- Be 21 years of age or older and a US citizen;
-- Passing a Wyoming and FBI fingerprint background check, and cleared by the Cheyenne Chief of Police and City Council; and
-- Securing an Errors & Omissions Liability Insurance ($2 million).

Distance Learning
May was a busy month and left no time to complete the development project of our next course.  This month we will be launching 'Forensic Photography' as an essential tool for all investigators - from those taking scene photographs to those analyzing them.  We will have an introductory course discount.  Our investigative distance learning seminars are at www.InvestigativeCourses.com.  Courses will cover a variety of topics from basic to advanced skills, and range from one to four hours (in convenient segments).  We have included additional distance learning programs, developed by us, on the website.  We are excited to present these new learning tools.

We also welcome your ideas for future seminars.  These will be cost-effective, with reference materials included - and life-time access at no additional charge.

Dean and Karen Beers
AFI-LLC - Our agency is called upon for many reasons - from investigations to consultations - and from finding the right investigator to the right expert.  We have recently added to our case examples found at http://www.DeathCaseReview.com/sample-cases.html.

Agency News and Updates

Determination of Marital Status

In late 2014 our agency was retained by an attorney to determine if the former spouse of their client was remarried. It was alleged that she had, and had not given notice to the client and was still collecting a significant monthly sum of spousal maintenance (alimony, support, etc.).

Through investigative databases an address history was determined and personal identifiers verified. It was also determined that a new surname was recently being used, but there was no reference to a spouse. Searches of public records determined a vehicle was purchased and registered in the new surname, approximately one year prior. Crosschecking the information determined that the persons were the same. A search of social networking profiles found a history of reporting being married in a Middle Eastern country to a non-US resident.

Last month Dean was offered as an expert witness to testify in the evidence motions hearing for this domestic relations matter. Through uncontested testimony, Dean connected the dots of investigative databases, public records and social networking profiles to demonstrate the former spouse was remarried at a specific time-frame. In this motions hearing, without deliberation, the judge awarded a $24,000 judgment for excess spousal support, plus attorney's fees, costs and interest.

Our agency has conducted such personal profile records checks and investigations for over 25 years, as well as authored a book and course on Individual Backgrounds, Locates and Assets & Liabilities. The course is at www.InvestigativeCourses.com and the book is at www.ProfessionalLocateInvestigations.com

NEW nationwide VIN searches

A couple months ago we launched a limited service of vehicle plate and VIN searches by state, within the legal parameters of the searched state, for PIs. These are through our DMV. We have learned that VIN searches can now be searched nationwide. Plate searches still require a state and usually vehicle type information (it varies by searched state). We cannot do by name or by address searches at this time.

Searches are $20 (discounted for multiple requests). Please visit http://mvr.privateinvestigations.org for details and payment. After ordering and payment, please email the completed state DPPA form and a copy of your PI license.

Global Investigators Media Group (GIMG.tv) with Facts & Forensics

The April podcast is available at

http://gimg.tv/014-facts-forensics

The May show features more topics of interests to our listeners.

Conversations with Karen brings to us a couple interesting topics - the insanity by defense against the death penalty of the prosecution in the Aurora, CO theater mass killing, and the destruction of evidence by law enforcement leading to an exoneration. Karen also reminds us of fallen officers and the true charity of one person to the family of a fallen officer.

Special Guest with Dean is E'Lyn Bryan of Forensic Bureau of Investigations, a Forensic Document Examiner based in Florida, joins Dean for an interesting conversation about the value of her expertise.

The June show will be
dedicated primarily to the good of law enforcement.  Our work shows us many perspectives, mostly good with some bad.  Lately, it seems, our media has been filled with bad.  We'll talk about some very positive deeds and welcome your experiences.  Also, Dean's special guest will be Robert Wyman, expert Forensic Photographer (and more) from Florida.
Be sure and visit www.GIMG.tv for all of the Global Investigators Media Group hosts and shows!

Tidbits from AFI-LLC

PI Day 07/24/2015 (Arthur Athas, Private Investigators Now, Melbourne Australia)

It was around this time last year we requested the consideration of our friends and colleagues globally to support us on a quest to create an official "Private Investigator's Day". The purpose was to advocate and promote the importance and significance of P.I's and their continued contribution to society. With the great assistance of Dean Beers (forensic-investigators.com), the event was formerly adopted and recognized by the National Council of Investigation & Security Services, the World Association of Detectives, the National Association of Legal Investigators, the Association of British Investigators and governing bodies and up to 80, 000 individual private investigators throughout the world. Many P.I agencies, investigators and friends held a picnic at a park, gathered for drinks as a catch up, held information gatherings and hosted a lunch or dinner. Others chose to commemorate with recognition of deceased investigators and their contribution to many important cases. Some simply chose to join the event in order to create contacts and networks globally.

"PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR'S DAY" IS ON 24 JULY 2015, COMMEMORATING THE BIRTH YEAR OF EUGENE FRANCOIS VIDOCQ, THE VERY FIRST PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR WHO FOUNDED THE FIRST KNOWN DETECTIVE AGENCY IN 1833. HIS LEGENDARY REPUTATION IS CREDITED GREATLY WITH SHAPING THE WAY LAW ENFORCEMENT AND INVESTIGATIONS ARE CARRIED OUT TODAY. 24 JULY IS ALSO DEPICTED AS 24/7, WHICH IS THE TRADING HOURS OF ANY TYPICAL PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR. TOGETHER, THESE MAKE AN EASY DAY FOR US TO REMEMBER.

Last year's theme was "Passionate search for the facts". This year's theme is "A valuable asset to the community since 1833"

WHAT CAN THE PUBLIC DO TO SUPPORT "PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR'S DAY?

Visit the Website or Facebook site of their local Private Investigator, speak to a Private Investigator about your concern or case, establish a connection with a Private Investigator and most important - keep the Private Investigator's details handy for any future reference. The majority of all Private Investigators are very down to earth and friendly and are happy to assist with any enquiries.

WHAT CAN PRIVATE INVESTIGATORS DO?

Share, copy and paste this link on your site. Endorse and promote the event proudly. Offer a discount on services for the day, for the week or the month. This will benefit us all to create awareness of our importance and contribution to society, create contacts, networks and be a part of a growing annual event.

Deadly Consequences of Marijuana Use

While at the MEs office and speaking to high school kids, Dean would tell them marijuana is not going to kill you in an overdose like alcohol. But, like alcohol it is a drug and, like other drugs, is a mind altering substance and will contribute to deaths ... from suicides, to accidents and homicides. Thanks to Denver KCNC investigative reporter Brian Maass for the one story that tells the truth about the deadly dangers of marijuana.

Oil Field Deaths - CDC reports not all are 'Natural' as first investigated

One death of an oil field worker in Colorado was determined to be Natural due to a medical history of heart disease. However, a CDC investigation of nationwide deaths under similar circumstances revealed something different. As demonstrated, investigations may require empirical evidence of similar deaths.

Investigating the Case of the Earliest Known Murder Victim

A 430,000-year-old skull discovered in a Spanish cave bears evidence of deliberate, lethal blunt force trauma.

Our investigation would ask these questions: Was it deliberate? Was it self-defense? Was it a fall? Was it a jump? Was it a consequence of having a heart attack and falling off a cliff, then being entombed in the cave? Murder seems presumptive. All manners of death are open, with some being less likely than others absent additional evidence.

NCISS News

NCISS May Report from Lobbyit

In the month of May, Lobbyit continued follow-up from April's Hit The Hill event, discussing drone legislation with target offices, monitoring the FAA's developing drone rule, and meeting with several Senate offices regarding the USA Freedom Act, which places limits on the government's ability to use various means of domestic surveillance.

See the report at  http://t.co/1lrkTDzYxu

Stay Current with NCISS

The best way to stay current and support the investigative and security professions is by joining NCISS.  Visit the NCISS web site for a compendium of key legislation by state at http://www.nciss.org/legislation/latest-legislation.php then go to the link entitled "State Legislation."  The white states are states that either have no pending bills of interest or are not in session. You can also page down to your state where it is listed alphabetically.

Check out the recently launched "Advocacy Hub."  If you have not heard about the "Advocacy Hub," the Hub allows members to send already drafted letters to key legislators and government officials right from the web site. Currently there are two items pending. Check them out!

This service, usually reserved for members only, is temporarily complimentary from NCISS to make those aware of the strength and value of NCISS and proactive legislative awareness.

The Quint-Essential Qualities of a Professional Investigator...
Skills Appropriate for the Assignment
Law firms and medical offices specialize - Professional Investigators also specialize.  Their casework and continuing education should also be in your specialized areas.

Experience and Knowledge
Professional Investigators strive to maintain and further these. All professions have requirements of continuing education.  The CLI program requires extensive compliance with continuing education.

Responsible and Ethical Conduct
Every component of the investigation has evidentiary considerations. Professional Investigators hold themselves to a higher standard and leaves no question as to the admissibility of their evidence.  Information without ethics is not evidence.

Effective Communication
Professional Investigators maintain communication with the attorney, client, witnesses, and other key persons in the investigation.  Moreover, reports are the product of an organized investigation and should reflect the work product you expect.

Keyword - 'Professional'
Honesty, Integrity & Intelligence.  These define Professional Investigators and gives you the confidence that your case is in competent and skilled hands.
