Greetings

TODAY (Monday 06/01/2015) is the day that ALL private investigators (with few exemptions - i.e. law firm W2 status in-house investigators) MUST be licensed. Be sure that the investigator currently working your case, or that you are considering for a new case, is LICENSED. There is no grace period - DORA has been processing and approving applications since March.

Learn about our agency principals at  www.ColoradoLicensedPrivateInvestigators.com

Background

Colorado's voluntary licensure program was repealed in June 2014 after the passage of mandatory licensure, which will be effective June 01, 2015. At that time ALL persons asserting to be a private investigator and providing services defined by statute will have to be licensed (there are exemptions for in-house investigators and other limited persons (see the rules and statute). Reporting of operating without a license is mandatory - and with the cost of licensure, reporting non-compliance assures both consumer and professional protection from unlicensed activity.

Requirements:

Beginning in March, the online application process was opened by DORA. The basic requirements for Level I and Level II are the same. These are:

-- Be 21 years of age or older and a US citizen;

-- Passing a jurisprudence exam on the rules, regulations and statutes of being a Colorado Licensed Private Investigator;

-- Passing a Colorado and FBI fingerprint criminal background check;

-- Securing a $10,000 surety bond for consumer protection; and

Our agency principals are Level II, which requires the additional proof of 4,000 hours or greater of experience (education can be included for up to 2,000 hours).

The Quint-Essential Qualities of a Professional Investigator...
Skills Appropriate for the Assignment
Law firms and medical offices specialize - Professional Investigators also specialize.  Their casework and continuing education should also be in your specialized areas.

Experience and Knowledge
Professional Investigators strive to maintain and further these. All professions have requirements of continuing education.  The CLI program requires extensive compliance with continuing education.

Responsible and Ethical Conduct
Every component of the investigation has evidentiary considerations. Professional Investigators hold themselves to a higher standard and leaves no question as to the admissibility of their evidence.  Information without ethics is not evidence.

Effective Communication
Professional Investigators maintain communication with the attorney, client, witnesses, and other key persons in the investigation.  Moreover, reports are the product of an organized investigation and should reflect the work product you expect.

Keyword - 'Professional'
Honesty, Integrity & Intelligence.  These define Professional Investigators and gives you the confidence that your case is in competent and skilled hands.
