Dear (Contact First Name),
We hope each of you enjoyed all of the year-end holidays! Our Christmas was fantastic as we watched our grandkids get really excited about opening presents and seeing the lights around town. Northern Colorado has been a little cold, so we are going to be heading south as we make our way to the Mid-Winter Conference for the National Association of Legal Investigators in Memphis, TN over Valentines Day weekend. We would sure like for you to join us and our NALI friends! Sadly, for many the holidays and new year were filled with trauma, tragedy and pained hearts. We want to extend our condolences to the victims and community of Newtown, CT. after the tragic shooting deaths of 20 children and six adults. The trauma these events cause reaches into the very depths of the community. We have communicated with colleagues in the area. From all over, people and communities have reached out to offer whatever is needed.
IN THIS ISSUE -- Another fun YouTube video -- Unusual evidence in death cases -- AFI-LLC Supports Our Constitution -- AFI-LLC articles in CALI Journal -- Verifying PI Licensing in Colorado -- State and National Associations news -- Much More!!
A good grandpa used to pull the grandkids with his riding lawn mower or tractor. The next best thing to a tractor or Barbie jeep? Driving great grandpa's wheelchair! Not bad for not even four years old and her first time! http://youtu.be/kvtNYvCukGY
AFI-LLC - Our agency is called upon for many reasons - from investigations to consultations, and from finding the right investigator to the right expert. We have recently added to our case examples found at http://www.forensic-investigators.com/sample-cases.html.

You are more than a PI - You are a Consultant
|
We are often asked, by our PI colleagues and attorney clients, how can investigators help beyond the role of fact finding legal investigators. Last month we offered that every investigator, and almost every investigation, has the same core fundamentals in the fact-finding process.
As a professional courtesy, we often provide phone consultations to medical examiners, coroners and their death investigators. Last month we were contacted by an out-of-state deputy coroner for advice on a case. The advice sought was about arson evidence around the decedent. However, our observations of the case synopsis presented unrealized evidentiary considerations. The decedent was found burned with some unusual artifact of the fire. We were asked about the artifacts. Also mentioned in the synopsis was the decedent's dog was beside her and also burned. The humane society took the dog at the request of the fire chief. What's the lesson here?

Pursuit Magazine (PursuitMag.com) and PI Education (PIEducation.com) We have contributed several articles to Pursuit Magazine, an online full-service magazine for investigators, and have also developed a Death Investigation for Private Investigators online continuing education for PI Education. There is some exciting news coming -- look for details from our friends soon, and next month will fill you in!
Understanding Firearms - Automatic and Semi-Automatic - Assault and Military Style Sadly, there is a great deal of misinformation and misunderstanding about firearms. This becomes more pronounced after a tragic event, such as the Aurora, CO. theater shootings, the Oregon mall shootings and Sandy Hook Elementary in CT. The underlying issues of personal safety, building security and other intervention with mental health are never addressed. Here is an excellent video from the San Jose Police Department - http://youtu.be/ysf8x477c30

The Quint-Essential Qualities of a Professional Investigator... | Skills Appropriate for the Assignment Law firms and medical offices specialize - Professional Investigators also specialize. Their casework and continuing education should also be in your specialized areas.
Experience and Knowledge Professional Investigators strive to maintain and further these. All professions have requirements of continuing education. The CLI program requires extensive compliance with continuing education.
Responsible and Ethical Conduct Every component of the investigation has evidentiary considerations. Professional Investigators hold themselves to a higher standard and leaves no question as to the admissibility of their evidence. Information without ethics is not evidence.
Effective Communication Professional Investigators maintain communication with the attorney, client, witnesses, and other key persons in the investigation. Moreover, reports are the product of an organized investigation and should reflect the work product you expect.
Keyword - 'Professional' Honesty, Integrity & Intelligence. These define Professional Investigators and gives you the confidence that your case is in competent and skilled hands.

In Closing...AFI-LLC Supports our Constitution
| It is the policy of AFI-LLC to not officially make any political statements or endorsements as an agency. In our line of work, it is hard not to think about death and injury causation - it is our subject matter expertise. The tragedy in Newtown, CT presents several issues of self-protection and security for our children.
The mass murder of children and adults - students and faculty - at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT on December 14th 2012 cannot be described and has also traumatized the general public. We have extended our personal and professional condolences. We cannot know or understand the trauma this tragedy of one deranged person has caused - from the victims to families, from faculty to emergency responders, and the community at large. Similarly, we cannot offer a uniform and single solution to an empirical problem that is like the hydra - a monster of many heads.
