Welcome Our Visitors
Esther and Abraham Saggu have visited us several times this summer for worship and are participating in our small groups while they are here. Abraham is a Professor of Old Testament at the Seminary in Bangalore, India and is working as a research scholar on a five month project at Fuller Seminary to produce a commentary on the book of Zechariah. Esther is working in the seminary library. Without a car it is hard to shop for groceries and see the sights in LA; we invite anyone who has some time to offer Abraham and Esther a ride for shopping or include them in your journey to a museum, garden or concert. In October Esther and Abraham return to India, where Abraham will then travel to teach for three years at a newly developed missionary Bible college in Kathmandu, Nepal and Esther will work as a librarian. Please speak with Nina in the church office office for their contact information.

Friends in Deed Update
Several of us had the honor of going up to Friends in Deed to help pass out the school backpacks this week. Many thanks to Kim Story, Lu and Judy Burd, Tara and Kamryn, Krysty and Elle, Neva and Mattias, and Marlene for helping out! (and for all who donated backpacks and school supplies) We were able to pass out over 120 backpacks to some really happy children in just one day!! We also were able to see Friends in Deed in action - folks waiting for their turn to go into the food pantry and fill a bag full of groceries, women arriving to go to the Women's Room and be able to shower, do laundry, eat some food. It was wonderful to see Friends in Deed serving many people!! They provide so many needed services to our community.
I hope our community feels very thanked for all their continuing contributions to this wonderful and really important organization. The needs continue so please bring your canned goods to church on Sunday for us to take up to the food pantry. We will also be highlighting the fall fund raiser in the next month - Jazz on the Green - to be held at the historic Castle Green hotel on Wed. Sept. 16th from 6-9:30 p.m. It will feature live jazz, finger foods as well as wine and beer and a silent auction. This is one of the few fund raisers each year for this organization. Let's support it!! Ticket information will be forthcoming. FID is looking for corporate sponsorships of $500 or more. See Marlene for more info.
FCC folks helped to hand out the backpacks.

Pictures Needed!
We are in the process of updating our website. If you have nice clear pics of any of the happenings at FCC in the past year, can you please send to Marlene and Nina? We don't need an onslaught - just a few of your best shots from: worship, educational events, outreach activities, retreats, events, etc. Please don't send blurry photos or ones of poor quality since they don't reproduce well. Thanks in advance since pictures tell a 1,000 words you know!!

Documentary Film Screening
The Peace and Justice Committee invites you to join us for a documentary film screening at the home of Jeff Levison and James Chavers on Saturday August 8th at 4PM. The film is entitled Chasing Ice and chronicles the work of a National Geographic photographer as he leaves his work for the magazine and spends a couple of years gathering photographic evidence of the melting of glaciers and warming of the ocean at the Arctic Circle. Both a human story and an environmental project, this film offers important education and information about the condition of the polar ice cap and the effect of its health on our society.
Come join us! Call the church office if you need directions and we will provide refreshments for the film and a discussion afterwards! |
What's your Spiritual Style?
As part of the Visioning Process that FCC is undertaking, everyone is asked to complete a "Spiritual Style Test" (SST). Once a majority of our congregation has turned in their SSTs, we'll have an accurate picture of what our congregation's overall Spiritual Style is, and we'll know what areas we should focus in order to be more holistic in our spirituality, rather than overly emphasize one style over others.
Please see the attached SST, print it out, fill it out, and send back the final 3 pages to Nina or Andy by August 1st. We are extending the deadline in order to try to collect a majority.
