"Come, Holy Spirit, come. Blow through our lives with the breath of life. Blow through our church with the power of prophecy. Blow through our world with the promise of peace and justice. Work in us even now, that we may be your people on earth, your Church, your work of the Spirit. Gather all peoples together, that all may know of your powerful and life-giving love. Amen."

Reflections for Sunday Worship . . .
It Only Takes A Spark
Acts 2:1-21
How many times have we heard a story in our family or read a piece of literature that we are familiar with - and then heard something a new way, or noticed a detail or perspective that is fresh?! For a few years I walked the same route with our dog Casey and still I would find new flowers, details of houses and objects that I had never seen before each time I walked.
Some of us have heard this Pentecost story over a hundred times - and yet it is possible to hear it in a new way if we listen with an open mind and an open heart!
In a sermon entitled "It Only Takes a Spark"
we will look again at the Pentecost story - the birth of the church - and find new meaning for our lives.
Come and join us for worship this Sunday in the Chapel at 10AM - wear something RED!
Rev. Marlene W. Pomeroy

The University Club is holding another event this Sunday, so we are not permitted to park in their lot this Sunday. Please use the regular church lots, underneath the Fuller building overhang and the Corson St. lot for parking this weekend.
Teacher Appreciation Luncheon
After worship this week we are celebrating our church school teachers, youth advisors and Nursery staff with a luncheon in our East parlor. We give thanks for their commitment and their service to our children and youth with a simple sit down lunch and a few words of appreciation. If you see a teacher, advisor or Nursery care provider in worship or in coffee hour, please thank them and give them a warm hug of support - on behalf of all of us!
(a)Spire Ministry will worship at 1:00 p.m. in Alden Hall.
This gathering mixes the secular and sacred, ancient and contemporary, in a multi-sensory experience of Spirit-filled worship.

Strengthen the Church Offering
Our congregation is proud of its covenant with our denomination - the United Church of Christ. We are a five for five congregation - we contribute to each of the five offerings that are presented to us by the national setting of the church.
On Sunday May 19th we will collect the Strengthen the Church Offering.
Each day, visions and dreams are created in the hearts of many in the United Church of Christ. Through the Strengthen the Church offering, they can become a reality.
As God calls our congregations to be "church" in new ways, your gift will plant new churches, awaken new ideas
in existing churches, and develop spiritual life in our youth and young adults. Because of this offering, many more will hear the good news that "God is still speaking."
Stillspeaking: It's the shorter form of "God is still speaking," a campaign by the United Church of Christ to simply remind us that God still has a lot more to say. Since 2004, Stillspeaking has worked with thousands of UCC churches and individuals across the country to make religion relevant again and to extend an extravagant welcome to all-because no matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you're welcome here... at the United Church of Christ!

Speaking of Money...
We continue to struggle with cash-flow in our church budget so if it is possible for you to help us resolve this, here are several suggestions:
Finally, did you know that you can transfer stock to us for your pledge? If you want information about that you may speak to either Celina or Don Hughes for guidance. We know that some folks may not be able to pay in advance but if those who can will do that, this will really help to alleviate our cash-flow challenges each month, so thank you in advance for whatever you can do to help!

Mark Your Calendars-- CPK Fundraiser Tuesday June 11th
Hungry for CPK? If you come eat at the California Pizza Kitchen across the street (Los Robles and Union) at anytime on Tuesday June 11th, 20% of all proceeds (food, drinks, alcoholic beverages etc) will benefit our FCC youth work trip to Hawaii in July. You don't have to do anything special, except bring a printed copy of the attached flyer. If you don't bring the flyer, we don't get credit! Every dollar you spend at CPK raises $.20 for our trip. Share our flyer with friends and encourage them to come too!! Bring your entire family or a group of work colleagues for happy hour dinner etc. Can't make it? You can still support us! Send your work colleagues, neighbors or others instead. In case they ask, on Oahu our Youth group will participate in several service projects throughout the week, meeting and working alongside low-income children at the Susannah Wesley Foundation, homeless families at a transition home near where we are staying, homeless families through H-5 Homeless services shelters and more. We will meet youth from 2-3 other churches.

Come Join Us At General Synod!
Every two years the United Church of Christ gathers as a denomination - lay, clergy, national setting staff, Conference and Association staff - to spend time sharing ideas, voting the work of the church, learning, worshiping and celebrating.
This June 27 th to July 2 nd we are fortunate to have the gathering in our own backyard - Long Beach Convention Center. Have a look at the attached flyer that describes all the work our Southern California Nevada Conference is doing to host this event for our brothers and sisters in the wider denomination. Andy Schwiebert, Leo Lynch, Andy Romine, Brian Brookey, Marlene Pomeroy, Jake Pomeroy and Stacy Thomas are all planning to attend at least one or two days of Synod.
Come and join us there - for a day or for the week!

Youth Hawaii Work Trip Fundraising Begins!
Several FCC youth have already begun to find work and creative ways to raise funds for the work trip to Hawaii this July 7-12. A couple of youth have been working for parents or family members doing office work and others have been babysitting for neighbors and friends. Each youth is encouraged to continue to work towards their goal of raising at least $300 from sources outside FCC (friends, family etc) to support our trip. Additionally, our goal is to raise $300 per youth through church related fundraiser events, including babysitting events, hire-a-youth services (see below), sales of granola (stay tuned for more info!), selling lunch on 6/2, a car wash and more.
