Framing 101: What to expect at your local frame shop

We're observant people! It's true, customers (that's you) come in and it's up to us to help you bring out the best in each individual piece of art to fit each individual taste.

Along the way, we noticed at times framing can be intimidating for some, even overwhelming (sooo many options and prices!), we think it's time to demystify the process! Feel free to share this article with friends and family who might not be in the know!

Step 1: Check out the Art

This is the obvious one, before we get started with Step 2, we assess what will make a piece stand out!

Step 2: Q&A

We tend to ask a lot of questions, such as:

  • Do you know where you're going to hang you piece?  (This allows us to determine scale and proportion.)
  • Will it hang in a room with lots of windows? (This determines your glass options.)
  • What color are your walls, your furniture?
  • What are your wood tones in the room? (9 out of 10 times, we'll try not to match it!)
  • And finally, the most important one: "Do you have any idea what you would like to have done with it?"

At the end, we go from having an overwhelming amount of over a thousand option, to a manageable amount of two to three options

options

Step 3:  Mission Complete!

The final step is all about bringing your art alive by picking the option that you love and will enhance your piece, not distract from it!

Bedroom Makeover
  To Sleep, perchance to dream...

Your bedroom is the most important space in your home to feel uncluttered and at best restful. Unfortunately, by the time you get to creating this oasis from the outside world it may have been left neglected to the point of having no idea where to begin! Here are a few simple tips on how to begin.

Tip 1:Purge

It may be a personal thing, but nothing gets me going more than a master cleanse of the room I'm about to tackle. It's so much easier to get rid of things you no longer find useful or beautiful, than trying to find room for it later!

  Tip 2:Headboard vs No headboard

I'm on the fence about this one, on one hand  a headboard just seems to give a bed an anchor point,  even in the case of a low profile headboard. Ex:

But then I see this (image below), and think: "go with what feels right!"

Tip 3: Night Stands: How tall should a night stand be in relation  to the bed?

As a rule of thumb, most nightstands are around 24"-28" high. The average bed is around the same height. If you have lower, minimalist type bed, you should adjust the night table height accordingly.

The purpose of the nightstand is to be able to access if from the bed, so if it is too tall, or too short , you most likely won't use it.

 Tip 4: Restful Color
