Shakespeare's most life-affirming comedy, and his most optimistic vision of the human condition.  Clowns and misanthropes, lovers and haters, the wise and the foolish, all find their way to the magical forest of Arden where life is re-molded "nearer to the heart's desire."   Both hilarious and tender, this play celebrates Love with a capital L, and no one, however grumpy or cruel, silly or smart, escapes its healing power.

It's a "neo-tribal hootenanny" - original "voice and percussion"-based songs with a generous dose of audience participation. The music mixes conventional instruments (guitar, bass, marimba) with homemade creations (using buckets and barrels, keys and cans, bells and body percussion). Billy tailors both his song selection and its presentation to uniquely suit each audience. It's spirited, straightforward music that is accessible to anyone and everyone, regardless of age or cultural background. For more than two decades, his creative and interactive performances have enchanted and inspired folks from all walks of life - touching hearts, souls, and minds world-wide. Thumbelina with The Oregon Shadow Theater
Saturday, May 23, 2015 :: 4 - 5 pm
The Kim Maxwell Studio
226 W. Ojai Ave. #102, Ojai

Thumbelina is one of Danish storyteller Hans Christian Andersen's most delightful characters, a miniature girl born from a flower who has to find her own way in the world of nature. In this OST production Thumbelina journeys through a series of natural habitats to discover her home in the land of the flower fairies. The visual design of this colorful shadow play is drawn from Art Nouveau, the decorative art movement of the late 1800s which is characterized by its flowing organic lines and its nature themes. While the plot of the play follows Andersen's story, the script supports a comic sub text linking music of the 1960's and '70s to Thumbelina's desire to find her home in a land of flowers. The live music is performed on hammer dulcimer, electric guitar, and an assortment of percussion and sound effects devices. Oregon Shadow Theatre's production of "Thumbelina" has been awarded the UNIMA-USA Citation of Excellence in the Art of Puppetry.
