The Ojai

"The Ojai" - 113th Ojai Tennis Tournament

Started in 1896 by William Thacher, this year slated for April 23 - 28, 2013 in the beautiful Ojai valley at Libbey Park will mark the 113th playing of the oldest and largest amateur tournament taking place at the same location in the United States.

The Ojai features competitions in 30 different divisions and includes more than 1,500 junior, high school, collegiate and Open players playing on more than 110 courts at more than 30 sites throughout Ventura County, including private courts in Ojai. Among the highlights for the 2013 event:

  • The Ojai is pleased to announce that this year's tournament will feature the California Community Colleges State Championships for the first time.
  • For the second straight year, the Pac-12 men will contest a team dual-match competition, featuring inaugural 2012 Ojai winner and four-time defending national champion USC.
  • Through the generous donation of longtime tournament official and benefactor Mike Taggart, $20,000 will be handed out in prize money in the Men's and Women's Open events.
  • Once again this year, junior events at The Ojai are considered a "Sectional Open" tournament by Tennis Recruiting Network (TRN), the premier collegiate tennis recruiting website in the country. Due to their historical strength, the Ojai Junior events now count for TRN ranking purposes, and players winning a match in these events will be considered as "national players" by TRN.
  • Two-time Boys' CIF champion and future UCLA Bruin Gage Brymer of Irvine-University High will attempt to be the first player since Bobby Riggs (1934-36) to win three consecutive interscholastic titles in a division that began in 1899.
