We're 1/3 of the Way Towards Our Goal!
September to Remember

hsa logo
Thank you to all the parents who have made a donation to the HSA for the 2016-2017 school year. We are one third of the way towards our goal of 100% parent participation which is great but we only have a few more weeks to go in our donation drive and we need your help.  We are hoping to do the bulk of our fundraising now in September so we can focus on fun for the rest of the year.

Every dollar you give makes a real difference in the life of our school. Your donations directly support arts, music and our mindfulness programs. They provide uniforms for the sports team and special science and math assemblies. So please consider donating today!

Our suggested donations levels can be found here but we welcome donations of any size. Our Golden L donation level gets you free tickets for your family to the major Lafayette HSA events throughout the year including the Auction and the Homecoming Dance.

Thanks for your consideration and for making this a September to Remember for Lafayette!

The Marquis Turns 259

Our beloved Marquis de Lafayette turned 259 on Tuesday September 6 and the Lafayette Fun Committee threw a heck of a birthday fete for him last Tuesday and Wednesday! Students serenaded our beloved school mascot in French and English at recess and enjoyed delicious popsicles donated by local business Squeaky Pops.

In addition to the sweet treats and singing, Shannon Behm, HSA Co-President, retrieved the bust of the Marquis de Lafayette from storage and with the help of our custodial team, reattached him onto his pedestal in atrium of the new school.

Special thanks to the all the parent volunteers and staff members who helped make this a fun birthday celebration for our special Marquis de Lafayette! Last, but not least, merci beaucoup to all the Lafayette students who showed our Marquis how much we love him.

Save the Date: Lafayette Fall Festival

After a year of trailers...There's No Place Like Home! Please save the date for the Fall Festival on October 15. There will be something for everyone: scarecrows, tin men, lions, and lost little girls included. We'll be showing "The Wizard of Oz" on the big screen as the sun goes down. Hope to see you there!

Community
CHEVY CHASE DAY The Chevy Chase Citizens Association
(CCCA) will once again host its annual neighborhood festival on Saturday, September 17 from noon to 3:00pm. Chevy Chase Day will be centered around the Chevy Chase Community Center.  Besides traditional activities such as the moon bounce and scavenger hunt, families will find more to do and eat this year. The Farmers Market is participating this year and will offer special event treats. Dunk Metropolitan Police officers from the 2nd District in the dunk tank, learn the new sport of Pickle Ball, play a jumbo nonalcoholic version of beer pong, or get an airbrush tattoo while dodging stilt walkers and jugglers. Look out for the fire juggler! Cotton candy, popcorn, sno cones and ice cream are all free. We are most excited to unveil a never-before seen, state of the art virtual reality gaming experience. You've never played fruit ninja like this before!  CCCA members can take advantage of members-only discounts and specials in our shops and restaurants. Not a member? You can join on the spot for $15.  We look forward to seeing you on Saturday!

NANNY SHARE This is Lauren Di Renzo, 5th grade teacher at Lafayette. On June 1st I gave birth to a lovely, calm, and happy baby girl! I'll be returning to school in early November and would like to start or join a nanny share. By then she'll be 5 months old. We're looking for part time only - Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from roughly 7:30 am - 5 pm. We'd prefer not to host since our place is very small! The time I'd pick her up is slightly flexible but will be between 4-5 pm. Please email me if you're interested in discussing this further. Thanks!

BARBELL BETTYS is the perfect class for women who know they should be weight training, but don't know how to start. For women
only, coached by women only (myself and Janney mom, Liz Rihani). Class is offered 3x/week (Sun/Wed/Fri) - we hope you can make at least two classes/week, but if your schedule allows for three, all the better!
A new session of Barbell Bettys began on Sunday at Second Wind Crossfit, but it's not too late to get started! Click here for more information and to sign up.

Second Wind Crossfit, a Lafayette Sponsor, is owned by former Lafayette parents Michelle & Steve Dolge, and is just a quick 6-minute trip across Rock Creek Park via Military Road and a few blocks south on 14th Street. Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have. Hope to see you there!
