From the Principal

Dear Lafayette Families -

Thank you again for an incredible opening of our school year and new building!  We are eager to share more information about our classrooms, teachers, clubs, and all things that make Lafayette great this week during Back to School Nights!

Wednesday, 8/31 - Grades PreK, 1, 3, 5
Thursday, 9/1 - Grades KDG, 2, 4
6-8 pm both nights

A couple of quick odds and ends...

-Every Friday will be "Spirit Day"!  Students and staff are invited to show off their Lafayette pride and wear their favorite Grizzly Gear.  If you need to stock up, Grizzly Gear will be available at Back to School Night.

-Please don't park on Northampton or BroadBranch road adjacent to the school.  These are both key to our drop off lane and the bus routes.

-If you arrive after 8:40 am, your child will enter through the main office and go to class.

-PARCC scores are being released today.  We will devote an upcoming "Coffee Talk" to discussing our results and how we measure achievement.

I think that's all for now.  We look forward to sharing great evenings with you this week for Back To School Night!

See you soon,
Dr. B

Meet the 2016-2017 Lafayette Annual Sponsors

This year we are proud to announce that the following local businesses have signed on as Lafayette Annual Sponsors:

Anslie Stokes and the Stokes Realtor Team, The Avenue and Capital Crab Company, Barstons Child's Play, Broadbranch Market, Byrdsmiles Orthodontics, Galley Foods, Heather Davenport, Washington Fine Properties, Kimberly Cestari, W.C. and A.N Miller, Realtors, Lee Murphy, Washington Fine Properties, Macon, Magruder's, Potomac Pizza, Steve and Michelle Dolge, Second Wind CrossFit

Lafayette Annual Sponsors are local businesses and community leaders who donate thousands of dollars each year in cash and good and services to support Lafayette and all our amazing events and programs. Many of these generous local businesses donate year after year, even after their own children have graduated from Lafayette. Their generosity makes a huge difference for the children, staff and families of Lafayette.

In return for their support, we ask each Lafayette family to think about supporting them the next time you need to buy or sell a house, shop for food, get a gift for a birthday party, start a new work-out routine, order in dinner or even go get braces for your child.

If you own a business or know a business in the community who would like to become a Lafayette Annual sponsor, please contact Jenny Backus at  or Astrid Ruggeri. Thanks again to all our awesome Lafayette Annual Sponsors.

Verify Your Info for the Directory!

It's time to verify your info for the Lafayette Directory!  Both new and returning families need to verify their information
Directory
in the database, so that we can get this valuable resource out to you as soon as possible. Remember, all information in the database is secure and is not shared with outside parties for any purpose.
New families: Go here and choose "Join as a New Family."  Or send an email to Laura Comay with your contact information (parents' names, address, preferred phone numbers and emails for each parent as desired).

Returning families: We need you to verify your directory information, even if nothing has changed. Go here and follow the instructions on the home screen. If you've forgotten your username or password, choose "Can't Login."

Calling All Babysitters!

We're compiling listings of neighborhood babysitters for the Lafayette Directory. This is intended for neighborhood students--usually Lafayette alums or siblings--who will be available for weekend, evening, and other casual babysitting.

The listings are free, but please only submit a listing if you expect to be reasonably available, and limit the entry to a few sentences at most. Include your name, age, phone number and/or email address, as well as any restrictions (such as what days you are available or what age group you want to babysit). Please email submissions or questions to Holly Idelson.

Add a Name to Our New School!

ADD YOUR NAME OR YOUR CHILD'S NAME TO OUR NEW SCHOOL!
The HSA has teamed up with our builders and school leaders on a very cool new program to build a special commemorative area in our new school where current and former Lafayette families or community members can buy engraved bricks to honor students, teachers, friends, and even special moments.  It's a great way to permanently cement special Lafayette memories, plus you are helping to support Lafayette.

Sales of the engraved brick pavers will benefit all the programs that make LAFAYETTE GREAT!!!

It's so easy. You can pay via check or online at lafayettehsa.org. Just fill out the order form (both sides please), attach a check or your receipt from paying on line at lafayettehsa.org  and return it to school via your child's backpack or drop it in the Main Office.  Order forms can be found on-line, and print copies will be sent home in your child's backpack after Labor Day.  There are 2 sizes of bricks: standard (4x8 inches) costing $150, and larger (12x12 inches) costing $300.

See the website for more details.  Brick sales end on September 30th.   Questions? Contact Sonya Matza.
